The Sham Trial of the Century
On Friday, Judge Juan Merchan handed down his sentence in the so-called “hush money” case against President-elect Donald Trump: an unconditional discharge. With no jail time or additional penalties, the sentencing is the ultimate indictment of this politically charged spectacle. The lack of any meaningful punishment exposes the trial for what it truly was—a sham proceeding built on a sham verdict, designed to score partisan points rather than deliver justice.
Democrats thought this case would prevent Trump from returning to the White House. In the end, the only result is that, for the time being, Democrats can call Trump a “convicted felon.”
But, in all likelihood, Trump’s status as a “convicted felon” won’t last.
