‘Reagan’ is a Must-Watch for Every American
The first time I saw the trailer for the Ronald Reagan biopic, I knew I’d go see it on opening night.
The film excellently portrays Reagan’s consequential role as president, while also providing insight into what shaped Reagan’s politics, particularly his attitudes toward communism. At a time where Democrats are shamelessly trying to push the narrative that Joe Biden is the most consequential president of the modern era, this movie blows that fantasy out of the water. And the move shows us how Reagan’s life shaped his worldview, and informed his decisions in bringing about the fall of communism and the end of the Cold War.
Dennis Quaid’s portrayal of the 40th president is nothing short of masterful. He embodies Reagan so convincingly that it’s easy to forget you’re watching an actor. In an era where liberal Hollywood relentlessly attempts to rewrite history to fit the radical left’s agenda, Reagan stands out as a refreshing reminder that conservatives can still challenge the cultural narrative.
Unsurprisingly, the liberal gatekeepers did their best to tear it down.
“The modern critic is reflexively liberal, and it shows,” observes conservative film critic Christian Toto. “Some won’t even review titles that challenge their worldview.”
“The latest example confirms it,” he notes, pointing out that critics “savaged” Reagan, giving it a 19% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Fox News Digital highlighted some of the far-left media critics’ reviews. For example, Nick Schager from The Daily Beast dubbed the film one of “the worst movies of the year,” and a “MAGA-tinged hagiography” and dismissed it as "absolute trash." He criticized it for being preachy and graceless, accusing it of being embarrassing propaganda rather than a genuine biopic. Similarly, Washington Post critic Ty Burr described the film as “rosy and shallow,” claiming it serves more as propaganda for Reagan loyalists than as valuable history. While Variety's review was slightly less severe, it still described the film as a “blatantly worshipful biopic.” Stephen Farber of The Hollywood Reporter echoed these sentiments, calling it an “overly reverential tribute.”
The term “hagiography” is used quite a bit by various liberal critics. An online search finds that reviews by The Boston Globe, AV Club, Variety, Vulture, Express, and others all use the term to describe the film.
However, audiences loved it.
Fox News Digital also noted that while critics bashed Reagan, they absolutely gushed over Southside with You, a 2016 film about Barack and Michelle Obama’s first date, giving it a 91% “Certified Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Note that the audience rating of Reagan is higher than the audience rating of Southside with You.
“Film critics, by and large, lean relentlessly to the left, and they let that flavor their reviews,” Christian Toto told Fox News Digital. “So, when a Michael Moore film hits theaters, the response will be glowing, by and large, regardless of the content. The recent projects tied to progressive heroes like President Barack Obama ('Southside with You') and Ruth Bader Ginsberg ('RBG') are similarly hailed even by those who use the term ‘hagiography.’”
So, ignore the critics and trust the audience. Go see this movie.
