Democrats Aren't Abandoning Graham Platner Over the Rape Allegation

Watching Graham Platner’s campaign implode in real time has been, I have to say, very amusing. Frankly, it was inevitable. The fact that he had a Nazi tattoo for nearly twenty years alone was enough to know he was bad news, and Democrats would have been smart to have abandoned him last year.

But, instead, we got a steady trickle of scandals, and the party did nothing about it. Yet this week, practically overnight, the same politicians who had shrugged off scandal after scandal suddenly demanded his resignation after Politico reported that a former girlfriend had accused him of rape. Democrats are releasing statements citing the new allegations as the reason for withdrawing their endorsements and demanding that he drop out.

But the rape allegation isn’t the real reason they are abandoning Platner.
