As the writer of Margolis & Cox editorial cartoons, I’d like to one select cartoon from the past week for your enjoyment.

Donald Trump’s face is now on U.S. currency. The Mint rolled out the coin Wednesday to mark America’s 250th anniversary, showing Trump’s portrait next to the words “LIBERTY” and “IN GOD WE TRUST.”

I wrote about the new coin on PJ Media yesterday, but I’ve actually got more to say on it.

If you were so inclined, a roll of 25 coins runs $61. A bag of 100 runs $154.50. 150,000 rolls and 50,000 bags were made available for purchase on the Mint’s website, and both sold out. Both listings now read “not currently in stock,” with more promised later.

You may know that federal law prohibits a sitting president from appearing on currency. As such, Democrats have been howling about this for months, insisting a sitting president has no business on U.S. currency without Congress signing off. That’s the argument they’re making in public. Their real complaint, I believe, is something a bit different. I think, from where they sit, all they see is a Republican president they impeached twice being honored on money, and, adding insult to injury, the coin sold so fast.

Here’s the thing. Part of me loves this purely for how much it will torture the Left. Trump’s face on legal tender, forever, whether they like it or not? Good. But I don’t think this was a smart move.

My worry is precedent.

Democrats have been itching for years to plaster Barack Obama’s name and image on everything they can, and I don’t love handing them a fresh justification to keep doing so. And this move by Trump could be used to justify future presidents putting their own faces on our money.

Now, it’s not exactly that simple. Even though it’s technically illegal for a living person’s likeness to appear on U.S. currency, there actually is precedent for a living president to appear on a semiquincentennial commemorative coin. A 1926 half dollar honored Calvin Coolidge while he was alive and in office, minted for the country’s sesquicentennial.

So, that eases my worry a bit. But it doesn’t erase it. Will they find ways to honor their heroes, dead or alive, out of spite? Barack Obama? George Floyd? Margaret Sanger? I hate to even speculate whom they may want to put on our money in retaliation.

Trump has done plenty to anger the Left, and most of the time their outrage is just pure theater. The White House ballroom has been wanted by administrations on both sides for years. Fixing the Reflecting Pool was overdue maintenance, not a scandal. I’m not even against his arch idea, though the scale strikes me as absurd, and perhaps a different location would be better. But, like the Democrats, I think Trump should pick his battles.

The problem is that Democrats scream about everything Trump does, even the stuff that shouldn’t be partisan at all, and it drains the credibility out of every complaint they actually have a point on. They feed the beast every time.

So my interest in this coin has less to do with whether it was a good idea and everything to do with watching the Left lose their minds over change. For me, that was worth the price of a roll.

A new study has confirmed that buying into transgender ideology and cheering on left-wing political violence tend to go hand in hand.

This shocks nobody who has been paying attention.

The report was conducted by researchers at Rutgers University, the Manhattan Institute, and the Network Contagion Research Institute and commissioned by the Department of Health and Human Services.

Researchers surveyed 1,208 U.S. adults, asking how important they considered affirming someone’s gender identity, how threatened they believed transgender people are by groups like “white supremacists, men, the Supreme Court, etc.,” and how willing they’d be to excuse anti-democratic behavior. Then came the real test: whether respondents would justify six specific acts of political violence, including killing Charlie Kirk, killing President Donald Trump, killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, setting fire to ICE buildings, vandalizing the property of wealthy people, and attacking police officers.

“These findings suggest that gender ideology is associated with LWA [left-wing authoritarianism] and willingness to justify political violence,” the study states. The researchers add that “experimental research is needed to determine causality.”

I’m going to go with mental illness.

To measure this, researchers built the survey on what they call “consensus positions” from the American Psychological Association, the American Psychiatric Association, and the World Professional Association for Transgender Health, groups they insist are “not fringe organizations” but rather “the official scientific and clinical establishment on care for individuals who identify as transgender.” Responses were used to construct a new metric, the Clinical Gender Affirmation Scale, to measure the depth of a respondent’s support for gender ideology.

The report’s conclusion is where things get uncomfortable for the left. Gender ideology, the researchers write, “may function as an ideological accelerant, telling left-wing authoritarian psychology who the enemy is, why the situation is urgent, and—in those already disposed toward force—that violence is legitimate.” Researcher Colin Wright told The New York Post, “One of our study’s most interesting and perhaps shocking findings was that accepting gender ideology appeared to augment authoritarian attitudes on support for political violence.” Wright believes gender ideology plays a specific role in that radicalization. “We believe this may result from gender ideology defining specific oppressed classes and their oppressors, and the promotion of extreme narratives of harm for those who refuse to affirm transgender identities both socially and medically,” he said, though he cautioned the theory is “only speculative at this point” and will get a full workup in a follow-up report.

The study also assessed what researchers call “catastrophizing beliefs,” such as whether a respondent believes a transgender genocide is currently underway, along with “associate extremist responses,” like support for censoring or punishing people who oppose transgender ideology or who ignore Supreme Court rulings on gender issues. Researchers say they expect these new measures to predict broader support for anti-democratic beliefs, though they’re calling that an “empirical question” still under ongoing analysis.

The report also points to the 2022 assassination attempt on Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh by Nicholas Roske, who later identified as a transgender woman, as well as school shootings in Minnesota and Tennessee carried out by trans-identifying individuals. None of this is coincidence, according to the study’s authors, and the pattern doesn’t stop at a handful of headline-grabbing cases.

Over at PJ Media, I crunched the numbers myself, and the pattern holds up. Between 1966 and 2024, trans-identifying individuals were responsible for at least 2% of all mass shootings in the U.S., despite making up just 0.6% of the population. That’s over three times their population share. Leftists will rush to point out that men commit the overwhelming majority of mass shootings, and they’re right. Men pull the trigger in roughly 98% of cases while making up about half the population, putting them at twice their population share. Trans-identifying shooters are still outpacing that.

Make no mistake about it, this is a mental health crisis, and there’s no doubt that the modern left’s obsession with gender ideology is only making it worse. Until Democrats stop treating it as sacred and start treating it as dangerous, the violence isn’t going away.

I’ve said for weeks that Sen. Darline Graham (R-S.C.) never deserved to inherit her late brother’s seat in the Senate. Out of fairness, I said she could still prove me wrong and earn South Carolina voters’ trust on her own merits. On Tuesday night, in her one and only runoff debate against Rep. Ralph Norman (R-S.C.), she proved it herself.

Norman and Graham went after each other hard for most of the night, though both sides mostly stayed within the bounds of that Southern politeness we’ve all heard so much about.

On substance, it wasn’t even close. It should end her campaign.

I had no idea who Courtney Stodden was before this week when her accusations against former Seinfeld actor Jason Alexander made headlines. She reintroduced the world to a comedy sketch nobody had thought about in 14 years, and I bet most people didn’t even see it then. In her post, she accused Alexander of repeatedly touching her inappropriately during a 2012 Funny or Die bit, back when she was 17.

The sketch, The Donny Clay Show, was a Funny or Die parody of daytime motivational hosts like Dr. Phil. Stodden posted a screengrab from it showing Alexander holding his phone to her chest. “I was 17 years old in this photo,” she wrote. “The older I get, the more impossible this is to understand.” She said Alexander repeatedly “rubbed his phone across my breasts” during the bit while joking there was “no signal” in her head but “plenty of signal” in her chest, and that later in the sketch he cracked that once she turned 18, he’d like to take her “behind the couch” and “have his way” with her. “I was a minor,” she wrote. “I didn’t have the legal power to decide whether I wanted to participate. The contracts were signed by adults. The paycheck went to Doug. The production moved forward. I was the only child in the room. I felt so alone.”
