I’m taking a little break from politics today…

Back in 2018, I walked into a Tesla showroom in California, sat down inside a Model X, and never quite got the experience out of my head.

I didn’t even get to drive it. Didn’t matter. The technology was unlike anything I’d seen, and from that moment, Tesla remained on my radar — even as I told myself an electric vehicle didn’t fit my life.

For years, that was a perfectly reasonable conclusion. Electric cars had become something of a cultural symbol — the vehicle of choice for left-wing environmentalists who wanted you to feel guilty about your commute. For me, buying one was never going to be an ideological statement. If I were going to spend that kind of money, it had to make practical sense first.

Then Tesla unveiled the redesigned Model Y, and that old curiosity came roaring back.

The timing was interesting. Right around the same moment I started seriously reconsidering Tesla, the Left launched its unhinged campaign of outrage and vandalism against Elon Musk and his company. Protesters were targeting dealerships. People were vandalizing cars. Social media mobs were demanding boycotts. For some buyers, that might have been enough to walk away.

For me, it had the opposite effect. If the people who spend their weekends screaming at cars hated Tesla this much, maybe I needed to take a closer look.

Still, I wanted to be smart about it. So I reached out to my friend of PRNDL and one of the sharpest car minds I know. I had to test-drive the car first, so I did a test drive with Jordan while I was on a trip to Massachusetts.

I quickly stopped asking whether I should buy a Tesla and started asking when I would buy one. Soon after I returned home to New York, I ordered the car.

That was a year ago today. A few weeks later, I picked up my new car, and I’ve been driving it ever since, and I have zero regrets.

The Numbers Make the Case

One of the first practical questions anyone asks about an EV is what it actually costs to run. I can answer that with tremendous accuracy. I invested in a Tesla Wall Connector for faster home charging. Yes, that part was expensive, but home charging is a huge part of the convenience of having an EV, and it’s been worth every penny. I got the Tesla Universal Wall Connector. That cost $600 plus installation. But I’ll never have to do that again.

So, what am I paying to charge my car? Well, between the Tesla app and other third-party apps, I know exactly how much I’ve spent to charge my car at home.

My home charging costs over the past six months:

• October: $51.49

• November: $42.11

• December: $47.39

• January: $84.12

• February: $54.15

• March: $51.54

That comes to a total of $330.77 over six months. That’s a huge savings over what I was paying to fill up my previous car. But it was actually cheaper than that. My electric company knocks $24 off my bill each month since I charge during off-peak hours, which brings the real six-month total down to $186.17, or about $31 a month on average.

The Skeptics Got It Wrong

Here’s the part I’ll admit freely: I spent years dismissing electric vehicles because, for a long time, the skepticism was warranted. Terrible range. Uninspired design. A long list of compromises dressed up as progress. Environmentalists certainly pushed EVs hard, but the products they were pushing mostly weren’t worth buying. Tesla changed that — not just for the market, but for me personally.

The most persuasive case I’ve heard for why electric cars have the edge comes from behavioral economist Rory Sutherland. His argument flips the usual debate on its head. Instead of asking whether EVs can replace gas-powered cars, he asks a simpler question: if electric cars had come first, would anyone seriously invent the internal combustion engine afterward?

Sutherland walks through the logic in a way that makes the answer pretty obvious. He points out that the pitch for the internal combustion engine fails off the bat. “It’s massively complicated,” he notes. “You put a huge tank of an inflammable liquid in your car… and then it feeds into these cylinders where we engineer… a series of explosions.”

Even then, the system isn’t exactly efficient.

“Now, unfortunately, it only produces torque in a limited range of the revolutionary cycles, so we’ll need a thing called a gearbox, which we’ll need oil for, and then we’ll need an air filter, and then we’ll need a water filter, and then we’ll need all this stuff. It’s gonna be vastly more complicated.”

And for all that complexity, Sutherland points out, the supposed advantages don’t materialize.

They don’t perform significantly better than electric cars; they’re noisier and harder to build.

“There are 250 moving parts in the drivetrain,” he noted, while electric cars have just seven. By the time he gets to the one real benefit—quick refueling—the tradeoff looks almost absurd. “Can you refill it at home? No, obviously you can’t refill it at home. You’ll have to go to a special place.”

In short, if engineers were starting from scratch with electric vehicles as the baseline, the internal combustion engine wouldn’t look like progress. It would look like a step backward.

A year in, I’m not just happy with my Tesla — I’m a genuine believer. Not because someone guilted me into it. Because the car earned it.

I’ll be honest with you — watching Rep. Eric Swalwell’s political career implode in real time has been one of the more satisfying political spectacles in recent memory. It really couldn’t happen to a more deserving guy.

And the best part? It’s only been one weekend.

On Friday, four women came forward with allegations against Swalwell. A former staffer alleges Swalwell twice had sex with her when she was extremely intoxicated and unable to consent, including a 2024 hotel-room encounter she describes as rape that left her bruised and bleeding. Another woman says he groomed her online as a young Democratic activist, got her drunk during a 2025 visit, kissed and groped her without consent at a bar, and left her with only blurred memories of ending up in his hotel room while he later fixated on keeping the incident from his wife. Social media creator Ally Sammarco says that after she contacted him about politics, he shifted to the more anonymous Snapchat, sent flirty late-night messages, bed selfies, and unsolicited nude photos, suggested they hook up, and hinted he could boost her career. Another woman told a similar story of Swalwell moving their conversation to Snapchat before requesting swimsuit and nude photos, and over several years, sent multiple unsolicited nude videos.

These aren’t vague, years-old whispers floating around social media. CNN reviewed evidence and found corroboration. So, there’s a paper trail, which means this isn’t going away. And the Democratic Party knows it. The allegations are serious enough, and the evidence convincing enough, that the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office has launched an investigation.

What happened next was a full-scale political exodus unlike anything Swalwell could have scripted in his worst nightmare. His campaign co-chairs quit immediately. Rep. Jimmy Gomez called the accusations “the ugliest and most serious accusations imaginable” and resigned on the spot. Rep. Adam Gray followed, calling the allegations “deeply disturbing” and pulling his support. Rep. Ted Lieu bailed. Sen. Adam Schiff called on him to drop out.

He’s lost nearly every single endorsement he had.

Nancy Pelosi issued a statement saying the matter must be investigated “with full transparency and accountability” and told Swalwell directly it was time to end his campaign. When Nancy Pelosi pulls the rug out from under you, you don’t have a floor left to stand on. And she wasn’t alone — Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Minority Whip Katherine Clark, and Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar piled on with a joint statement demanding the same. Even Rep. Ro Khanna got in line: “No one in a position of power should be allowed to act above the law or with impunity. The same rules must apply to Eric Swalwell.”

Then Swalwell posted a video response Friday night, and it was a disaster. He denied the assaults flat out, swearing they “did not happen” and promising to fight them “with everything that I have.” Fine. But then, in the very next breath, he apologized to his wife for “mistakes in judgment” and begged viewers not to doubt him. That’s not the statement of a man with nothing to hide. That’s a man trying to thread a needle that cannot be threaded.

And now the question is no longer just whether his campaign for governor survives. It’s inevitable at this point. He may not drop out, but he’ll go down swinging. But the real question is whether he’ll remain in Congress.

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) announced she’s filing a motion to expel Swalwell from the House and is pushing for a floor vote as early as next week. A motion to expel carries privileged status, meaning Luna can force a direct up-or-down vote without it going through committee. Every member will have to go on record. Democrats have been very eager to say Swalwell should end his gubernatorial bid. I can’t wait to see how eager they are to actually hold him accountable when it costs them a House seat.

Rumors of Swalwell’s creepy behavior have been around for years, and many believe Democrats in Congress have known exactly what kind of person Swalwell is, and yet, they’ve done nothing. Like Joe Biden’s disastrous debate performance against Donald Trump in June 2024, the allegations against Swalwell have forced Democrats to confront something they’ve known about for years, and everything they’re doing is about trying to salvage an election.

Prediction markets give Democrats an 85% shot at flipping the House and a 51% chance of flipping the Senate in November. They lead in the generic ballot, and multiple factors point to it being a bad year for the GOP, yet Democrats are pushing the conspiracy theory that Trump and the GOP are going to steal the midterm elections.

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who is retiring from Congress at the end of this term, sat down recently with MSNBC’s Ali Vitali for a wide-ranging interview touching on the 2026 midterms, Joe Biden, the partial government shutdown, and the prospects for female presidential candidates. What emerged was something less than a victory lap.

Pelosi raised eyebrows by suggesting Republicans could hack voting machines to alter election results. “We have to be on guard as to what they may try to do to the technology,” she said, alleging the GOP “may try to creep into the technology and create a false count.”

She added, “We always have concerns, but with this president and the Republicans who have no commitment to the rule of law and doing things the appropriate way — we’re ready.” She also stressed that “we have to make sure the elections are safe.”

If it were just one high-profile Democrat making this claim, it could be dismissed. But other high-ranking Democrats have been making similar accusations.

For years, the far left has chased reparations for slavery like a political white whale. It never quite materializes, but it always manages to stir up just enough outrage and virtue signaling to keep activists happy. Now, that same playbook has taken a stunning turn. Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) has decided that reparations shouldn’t be limited to people who were never slaves to be paid by people who were never slave owners.

Nope. She wants reparations for illegal immigrants.

You read that right.

At a hearing she hosted last week, Jayapal pushed this new twist on reparations. Fighting back fake tears, she declared, “They need to be brought before us, and they need to be held account [sic] for the trauma that they have created, and we are going to have to have some form of reparation for the kids and the families that have been traumatized through all of this.”

This is where the modern Democratic Party is headed. Not border security. Not the enforcement of immigration law. Reparations for people who entered the country illegally had no business being here in the first place. For Democrats, that entitles them to reparations.

The 60-year-old lawmaker, who was born in India and obtained her US citizenship in 2000, has been a vocal critic of President Trump and his immigration crackdown.

Trump’s Department of Homeland Security launched multiple ICE operations to root out illegal immigrants, but led to violent clashes between federal officials and pro-immigration protesters, including the fatal shootings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti in Minnesota.

Jayapal serves as the ranking member of the House Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement.

She threatened to move forward with her reparations proposal if the Democrats win back control of the House and elect her to lead the subcommittee.

“If I am chair of the immigration subcommittee, we will be pursuing all of these pieces,” Jayapal announced. “We need offensive actions around prosecutions. We need real accountability because at the end of the day, the people that have been inflicting this harm need to be prosecuted. They need to be brought before us and they need to be held account for the trauma that they have created.”

It would be funny if it were just Jayapal pushing this absurd scheme. However, other Democrats are reportedly on board with this as well. Rep. Maxine Dexter claimed, “The administration has terrorized our communities and mine in the Willamette Valley.” Rep. Christian Menefee added, “I can’t imagine seeing my kid in a jail cell just because of where he was born, just because of what language he speaks at home.”

This is where today’s Democratic Party is at. They don’t care about Laken Riley, Jocelyn Nungary, Rachel Morin, Sheridan Gorman, or others whose lives were cut short by illegal immigrants. Their stories don’t fit the narrative, so they disappear from the conversation. They think illegal immigrants are the real victims here.

So believe me when I say this isn’t just a policy proposal. It’s a fundamental shift toward a government that redistributes wealth on an ever-expanding basis. It was bad enough when they were asking people who never owned slaves to pay reparations to those who never were slaves. Now, they want Americans to pay reparations for people who broke into this country.
