Another Example of High-Quality Reporting from the AP

I couldn’t believe it when I found a story headlined, “Woman Eats 26 Grilled Cheese Sandwiches” on the AP wires… Why is this news?
A 100-pound woman ate 26 grilled cheese sandwiches in 10 minutes Wednesday at a New York restaurant, winning the World Grilled Cheese Eating Championship.
Sonya Thomas won $8,000 for the contest at the Planet Hollywood restaurant in Times Square but said she was disappointed in her performance.
I don’t know what’s more ridiculous, the fact that there is such a thing as the World Grilled Cheese Eating Championship, the fact that the winner gets $8,000, or the fact that the Associated Press found this newsworthy.
