As I’ve said before - I’m a former Marine. I had the privilege to fly back from the west coast this week on a plane with about 20 Marines. I had a great talk with a Marine warrant officer who sat next to me. One thing we agree on – for some reason the U.S. Congress has changed the standards for getting a Medal of Honor. We also both noticed the almost complete lack of reporting on the heroes who ARE recognized (those who win the Silver Star, Navy Cross, etc.).
For example – First Sergeant Kasel – rolls on grenades TWICE to save a fellow Marine. His story in incredible – word is he will NOT get the Medal. Why not? It is really heard to fathom. Also, another Marine died from rolling onto a grenade to save four other Marines – that USED to get your family the Medal – but not anymore.

Why is the Congress refusing to recognize and honor our heroes?

GREAT AD MATT.
THE AD: I’m sure it wants to make you (MATT)enlist and how did the ad put it–oh yea “retreat and run”?
AS MATT SAYS: I support the war but I’ll let others die in my stead for something I believe in.
What a dick.
Oh MATT are you ready for the service men letters we got em all back.
December 13th, 2005 at 11:50 am
The ad does not put words in anyones mouth. It is just as they spoke them.
But Mike, like so many “liberals” is full of hatred and vile. Pretty damn ironic if you ask me.
Mike - what the soldiers and Marines fear is that we will not support them. How would I support them?
1. I regularly send care packages to servicemen in iraq. Many, I don’t even know.
2. Support better pay and benefits for miltary. Many men are on the battlefield today while their wives and children are struggling on Food Stamps.
3. Support new and improved protection and weapons technology. For example, adding scopes to Marine rifles increased their lethality by 4 times - pretty significant for a group that was already pretty damn lethal.
4. Stop blocking recruiting efforts in liberal cities and universties - that is just crap.
5. Actually read what the hell is going on. Try billroggio.com instead of mainstream media (including FOX). Bill travels all over the Triangle with the Marines - he knows what he’s talking about.
December 13th, 2005 at 4:57 pm
Mike, I think even you could understand that even if I enlisted tomorrow, that by no means guarantees that I’d be sent to Iraq. That is not how it works.
Suggesting that anyone who supports the war should enlist is like saying that supporters of abortion should all become doctors and specialize solely in performing abortions. Do you support abortion Mike? will you go to med school and start your own abortion clinic?
December 13th, 2005 at 6:12 pm
Matt,
You are like a pathetic sports fan. You think that you are somehow part of the team but you only cheer and get fat on the sidelines. If you had any balls you would stop being such a pussy and enlist.
December 13th, 2005 at 6:30 pm
John,
I assume then that you posted this from a doctors without borders camp somewhere in Iraq? Or, what exactly are YOU and Mike doing to show support? Sipping coffee and reading the New York Times? This is a tired argument. You ignore support for the troops who ARE there.
I challenge you to send a CARE package to a Marine - need an address? Post an yahoo or hotmail address and I’ll send you one.
Jelly Beans, baby wipes, razors, and soap are always popular. But, you don’t really care about the troops - do you? Nor you Mike.
They read your pathetic hate filled ramblings. And they wonder if you are worth defending. Frankly - so do I.
December 13th, 2005 at 6:32 pm
Actually, I wonder what problem you guys have with the video. You don’t find in non-factual. And, you agree with the cut-and-run “strategy. So, why be mad when we just repeat your own words right back at you. Have the courage to stand up for what you belive. You DO think we should pull out NOW right? So, admit it.
December 13th, 2005 at 6:45 pm
Actually I don’t think that we should cut and run. I’m one liberal who thinks that it’s a very stupid idea. It would be suicide at this point and a great disservice to the Iraqi people. What I do think though is that if someone (liberal or conservative) supports a political philosophy enough to start a fucking blog, than they should have the balls to put their philosophy into action.

So - Want some addresses? One web site connects Army and Marine snipers looking for specific gear with people willing to pay for it. Buy a sniper a scope for his rifle?

support a sniper
http://www.anysoldier.com/
or just send a CARE package to a soldier or Marine.
Or - find out if you any relatives or neighbors (I’ve had both) overseas (not just Iraq) and put a package together for them. I have done this multiple times. It is GREATLY appreciated.
I hear many liberals here and other places SAY they support the troops. So - prove it. Do something.
December 14th, 2005 at 11:35 am
John, and I think every white liberal who believes in affirmative action should volunteer to give up their slot at a prestigious university, or a high paying job so a minority can have it instead… but, I don’t see any liberal who believes in affirmative action volunteering for that either…

If an enemy tank division landed in Florida - would their communications be protected by civil rights laws? What if American citizens living in the state were working with them? Would THEIR communications be protected? According to the Democrats - yes they would.
December 19th, 2005 at 11:34 pm
“Buy a scope for a sniper”. Typical military crap. Especially in a war in a country where we don’t even belong. In a more progressive world, we wouldn’t even need a military. Wish we could cut the funding much more and put it into health care, schools, and in finding alternate sources of power so we can stop destroying the environment, but we’ve picked too many fights now (Thanks George!) so we can’t simply send our troops home, out of harm’s way.
Matt, you’ve got flaws in your logic. But that’s nothing new. “Abortion supporters” are actually pro-choice (ie not necessarily aborting fetuses themselves, but supporting the right of women to choose if they want to be pregnant) while supporters of Bush’s agenda, such as yourself, don’t seem to mind that Bush broke international law, lied about the reasons for going in (or didn’t lie, but acted stupidly without confirming intelligence) and because of that, 30,000 Iraqis are dead and 2000 US soldiers are too.
December 19th, 2005 at 11:36 pm
Kahn-
You’re so ridiculous. “If an enemy tank division….” Liberals (not necessarily Democrats- there’s a difference) believe that communications involving US citizens should be protected, not enemy tank divisions. Tell me what’s wrong with that. What’s wrong with being able to make a phone call and have it be private?
December 20th, 2005 at 1:03 am
Ridiculous? I rode the elevator with someone the day before she died at the Pentagon. I remember she was lookin forward to getting back home to her family.
The NSA is a military organization. It’s on an Army fort in Maryland. We are gathering intelligence to thwart attacks. This does not require a warrant any more than a Marine needs one to put a bullet into a terrorists head.
When the U.S. Congress said war and any means necessary - they pulled the trigger on a military response. Since they have been briefed on it MULTIPLE times - they must be the biggest bunch of idiots on the planet. How the hell do you think we get information to stop attacks? The Democrats - yes the Democrats crippled the CIA’s human intelligence arm in the 70’s and 80’s. We shifted to space for pictures and signals intelligence. Well - this is what it is. By the way - President Clinton started this program (called ECHELON) during his administration. And he was right to do so.
It is EXACTLY like having a tank division in Florida. Maybe if you’d had to attend a funeral after 9/11 you’d get that.
Please note - I went to great effort to not call you names. This is too important to let political hatred get in the way.

December 20th, 2005 at 4:56 am
Sorry, but what does a jumper from the WTC have to do with Iraq? Are people who protect their land from foreign invasions terrorists? Wouldn’t you protect your homeland if it was invaded by a powerful enemy that was lead by a tyrant (like Bush)?
The problem with you, and with many military guys, is that they equate nationalism to a sort of religion, and therefore their agenda becomes a sort of crusade. Don’t mix emotions with facts. We shouldn’t be in Iraq and we shouldn’t support Bush for putting our men and women in harm’s way.
Call me all the name’s you like, but you’re doing more harm than good unless you’re saying that Bush is making a mistake.
December 20th, 2005 at 9:32 am
JayW - You CAN read right? The discussion had shifted to the NSA.
Iraq. Marine friends of mine say that after we toppled Sadaam - The Shiites and Kurds wanted to kill ALL the Sunni. The “civil war” everyone says could happen would essentially be THAT slaughter. The oil it turns out, is in the north (Kurds) and South (Shiite).
SOME of the insurgency is from Sadaam loyalists. It is almost all in the Sunni triangle. It is receiving arms, people, and money from Syria (Sunni) and Iraq (shiite). It is far mor complicated than you care to understand.
But beyond tired old rhetoric - you have nothing to say to help the discussion anyways.
December 20th, 2005 at 2:53 pm
He is sooo busted and you just don’t even realize it and can’t admit it. Ranking House Judiciary Democrat Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) has introduced a motion to censure President Bush and Vice President Cheney for providing misleading information to Congress in advance of the Iraq war, failing to respond to written questions and potential violations of international law and U.S. Rep. John Lewis said Monday in a radio interview that President Bush should be impeached if he broke the law in authorizing spying on Americans.
The Democratic senator from Georgia told WAOK-AM he would sign a bill of impeachment if one was drawn up and that the House of Representatives should consider such a move.

Soooo Jay. You don’t want to buy a scope for a sniper. Because them killing us is OK? I notice you didn’t volunteer to buy soap, shaving cream, and razors either. Admit it - you HATE our military. At the very least, you don’t give a damn about them.
December 23rd, 2005 at 4:15 pm
Jay, Is this YOUR idea of supporting our troops?
