DeLay has asked for a speedy trial. Lets see what happens when this Democrat drops the charges (like he did against Hutchinson) or loses in court. Will the ACLU rush to DeLay’s defense?

I can’t get all worked up about this one or jump on the “partisan politics” defense bandwagon. This is weak.

Earle is not a partisan hack…he’s prosecuted more Democrats than Republicans!

I know I’m inviting vitriol around places like this when I say it makes Republicans (including me) look really bad to reflexively defend Delay without knowing whether he might be guilty or not. Last I checked, it was generally considered more honorable to defend the Rule of Law than circling wagons.

That headline title could be applied to so many other examples. Clinton’s oral sex which all men like to receive from a woman if possible and whenever possible is just one of them. Or is this a true case of a good man being dragged through the mud through political vendettas which the right wing never uses themselves? :)

Ping Pong - yes, Earle has prosecuted more Democrats. But, Travis County is almost a purely Democrat County - so what is the point? He has gone after his political opponents. In an all Democrat County, guess what?

In fact, he is the DA for Travis County and NOT the county where DeLay lives. He was supposed to refer it to the DA of THAT county. But we will see. DeLay has asked for a speedy trial. It is scheduled for the end of October - only a few weeks away. We will see.

IF he is exonerated - will the Democrats apologize do you think? Will you?

Todd - the root of Clintons problems were that he was a sexual harasser. He used his position of authority as Governor of Arkansas to get BJ’s from state workers. He should have gone to prison for that (as should anyone who uses job security to get sex). He made the mistake of having his hacks attack Paula Jones in the press just a few weeks before the statute of limitations was to run out. It cost him dearly. I agree that the actual fling with Monica Lewinski was meaningless - but then again….did it fit into his sexual abuse pattern? She seemed willing enough. If he wasn’t already in trouble because of his past abuse, nothing would have come of it. I wonder where all the feminists where when Paula Jones needed help?

    Kahn—

When you ask if the “Democrats” will apologize if DeLay is exonerated, I assume you are referring only to Earle. Or do you want every Democrat across the land to rend our garments and lament our erroneous ways? And a quick reality check - when lawyers lose ANY case, they rarely, if ever, apologize. “Oh jeez. Sorry for the indictment! My bad.”

And remember - a grand jury indicted DeLay. Of course Earle led the case, but a jury of his peers indicted him. We’ll see what happens - maybe something, maybe nothing.

And I love the title, Matt - “Partisan Witch Hunt”. Perhaps it is, but remember the other side of the equation - “Partisan Witch Hunt Targets the Ultimate Partisan Witch”. DeLay practically invented the partisan witch hunt.

I hope DeLay goes down - it’d be nice to see fewer corrupt and vicious politicians on the hill, R + D both.

Todd - fair enough. Though I’d certainly include Nancy Pelosi in the list that should apologize. But you certainly do imply he’s guilty and express your disdain for him - and throw in an inuendo all in the last sentence of your first paragraph.

Oh - Earle also let a film crew have access for the last two years as he worked his “case.” And, he told DeLay that he had a “runaway” grand Jury and if he’d just waive his statute of limitations rights he’d promise to keep them under control. What a sap DeLay was for believing him.

If I was DeLay - I’d demand to see every second of the raw footage for that movie.

    last sentence - my mistake.

Apologize? For what? Wanting to let the wheels of justice turn before allowing my perception of the event to be filtered through a partisan political lens? Never. I like to think for myself.

Remember that what works for one side can also work for the other, and I for one like to live by the principle of “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” I know it sounds crazy these days but that’s how I operate.

Count me in as someone who doesn’t see “enemies” around every corner, especially other Americans who are just doing what all Americans have a right to do…whether I agree with them or not.

Well, lets just wait and see if these charges are justified or not. If they are not, then a Texas District Attny. abused his power to remove a U.S. Representative from a position of power in the House. If they are justified - then they are and DeLay will have deserved it.

Soooo, Ping Pong. As long as we’re in the mood to pursue felonies, what are your feelings on Ted Kennedy never being charged for Chapaquitic? You know - that case isn’t bound by statute of limitations - because someone died. Should THAT case be pursued? Or don’t you think that Bill Clinton should have been charged for sexual harassment for having State Troopers bring female state employees to him for coerced sex? Just curious.

Well what do you know, the original charge is already gone! It charged DeLay for acts that took place two years before the law went into effect. That is the “technical” reason the press is talking about. Two hours later, new charges. Lets see how they hold up.

Does anyone think that calling the fact that no crime was commited a technicality is fair?

Bush will pardon Delay if any charges stick.

Jay - I don’t think so. And - I hope not. But they won’t stick anyways. I’m looking forward to the trial.

Hear the latest? Earle, the man with a crusade took money from Unions and incorporated lawyers - both illegal. And, there are records to back it up. HE could be facing jail time for this. And don’t look for Bush to Pardon HIM!
