My Top 10shows
By Matt Margolis | August 11, 2005
John Hawkins gave it a go after being prompted by Jeff Jarvis… I guess I’ll try…
…in no particular order (note: still working on this list):
Seinfeld: Quite possibly one of the greatest shows ever. I will admit however the show really jumped the shark after the 5th season… but you can still get a laugh from the bad ones now that they are in syndication…
All In The Family: Even though this show portrays the conservative Archie Bunker in a negative light, it’s still good comedy. I will say however that once Mike and Gloria left the show they should have called it quits…
M*A*S*H: I remember early in my youth my parents used to watch this show and I never understood what was so great about it.
The Simpsons: This show gives meaning to syndication. You can always rely on an episode of the Simpsons to entertain you for a half hour… with the musical shows being the only exception.
South Park: Continues to push the limits…
The Cosby Show: Classic. Classic. Classic.
Brooklyn Bridge: Short lived show about a Jewish family in Brooklyn in the 1950s. Never understood why it was pulled, but it was a great show when it was on. I wish they’d release it on DVD. I miss this show.
Picket Fences: I used love this show, but I’ll admit it got a bit ridiculous in its last seasons.
Whose Line Is It Anyway: Hardly an episode that doesn’t cause an explosiion of laughter.
That 9 for the main list. I imagine think of more and finalize the top ten. There are other shows I loved in the past, or have recently come to like that may take that last slot in the top 10… Classic shows from youth like The Wonder Years, Family Ties, and Star Trek: The Next Generation, or shows I’ve recently come to enjoy like Everybody Loves Raymond, The West Wing, and King of the Hill. Such hard choices..
UPDATE: I just realized what was missing:
Diff’rent Strokes: I loved watching this show as a kid… I can’t believe I forgot it…

Matt,
I noticed that Jeff Jarvis put Cheers right at the top of his list. Which is kinda funny, because Cheers ran 9 (or was it 10?) years, it’s spin-off, Frasier ran 11 years. What’s the point? Who was the star of Frasier? Kelsey Grammer—Did you know that he’s a REPUBLICAN? Funny…just after he announced that on…I believe it was on Leno… that NBC canned his show. It ran longer than the show that it was spun from, yet Kelsey announces that he’s a Republican, and ZAP! The show is no more…Funny how that all works!

I think that Frasier had made its run. But, you are right about prejudice against Republicans in Hollywood. Liberals practice the worst kind of discrimination - a discrimination of ideas. They gather into liberal conclaves and groupthink conservative boogiemen into existence to hate. They shut out Republicans from the news, TV, and movie industries because they don’t want their liberal message (propaganda) diminished.
Favorite shows? Gilligan’s Island (Maryanne or Ginger?)and Hogan’s Hero’s make my list. I also like the BBC versions of John LeCarre’s Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and Smiley’s People.

Mikes favorite shows:
Mash - because it was in Korea, but really about Viet Nam!
The West Wing - Because it doen’t get better than that.
Over There - because why deal with real Marines and Soldiers and their stories when you can get a Hollywood filtered version?
CBS News - because they’ll make stuff up if they have to.
Hardball - because it’s not. And they hate conservatives almost as much as he does.
Charley Rose - because smugness is good if its liberal
Larry King - becuase rough and often divorced is good if its liberal
Anything on PBS - because they usually hide their bias so well - but its there if you think about it just a little.
And well, any news except fox.
Oh, and the Wiggles. Just because its so fun.
