« Massachusetts To Make Disciplining of Children Illegal? | Home | Jacko Verdict »
Pervert In Pink
By Matt Margolis | June 11, 2005
Massachusetts may force registered sex offenders to bear license plates with glow-in-the-dark pink lettering on their cars as a visual warning for kids to stay away. Personally, I don’t understand why sex offenders are even out on the streets and driving anyway. I’d much rather see harsher sentencing than an easily evaded license plate requirement.
Neverthless, I am skeptical such a law will pass. Back in 2001, a proposal was made to require convicted drunk drivers to have special “OUI” license plates… Those never happened.
Like the OUI plates, I suspect the IMAPERV plates to be DOA because of lawyers defending the “privacy rights” of sex offenders.

Back in Ohio they’ve got a law that those convicted of DUIs have to have yellow license plates w/ red lettering.

Can’t we make them where yellow stars at all times.
We can tell from farther away and protect out kids.

Not that I don’t want to protect the kids, but even if such a law was passed, what would keep a sex offender from using someone else’s car when they went looking?

This is absurd! These offenders are already on public lists, and now they should be visually identified?
Do we do this with murderers?
With armed robbers?
With arsonists?
With rapists?
And yet we have this hang up with child molestors. I would never wish harm on any child, but I’d prefer them molested than running into a rapist or murderer.

This will only make sex offenders committ two crimes if they dare strike again:
~to not only scope out for another chance to victimize another person
~but now to steal a car so they’re inconspicuous

the comment above from Mark about preferring a child be molested in place of rape or murder is ‘absurd’… what a freakin whiney ass liberal asshole comment to make at the defence of scum… i agree each of the ‘victims’ of labeling you identified above should not be visually identified… they should have already taken their last breath… i am married and the father of 2 teenage girls and i can assure u… there would be no need for identifying them as any of the above unless u feel the need to have it engraved on their headstone…

I’m all for the marked license plate. That way if someone moves into your neighborhood, you’re aware.
However they should probably omit the low level defenders that get caught for urinating in public, because then marking becomes meaningless.

My comment was not meant in defense of molestors. They should be locked up, not on some public list or with pink stickers on their plates.
I am merely wondering why we are so focused on sexually related crimes while murderers, arsonists, and rapists are released from jail all the time, and I don’t see THEM on any public lists.
Does anyone notify YOU if a murderer or rapist is living in your neighborhood? I suspect not.
