I Just Got Me One Of These

By Matt Margolis | April 26, 2005

Treo 650UPDATE, Friday, 4/29/05, 3:30 p.m. EDT: So, I’ve had my Treo 650 for a few days now. I can’t say I’ve fully taken advantage of it yet… there are certainly more features I have yet to try, but so far, I love this thing. In the few short days I’ve had it, the expense has been justified. I blog on three sites, this one, Blogs For Bush, and GOP Bloggers. The latter two get significantly higher traffic than this one, and B4B in particular is one of the more popular blogs out there. Many times I’ve gone away from a computer to do errands, or personal things, and important news breaks, and I’m unable to blog about it. I was on my way to Starbucks to do some reading when I learned a new Pope had been elected. Since I’ve been using my Treo, I’ve both written new blog entries and updated existing ones to help keep them up to date or to report on a story. I was at Starbucks when I found the story about Air America and the Bush gunshots skit. I blogged about it quickly, went about my normal routine, and that post has done pretty well (it has since been updated.) This post—sans update—was done on the MBTA Green Line after receiving a tip via e-mail. Here’s another post written at Starbucks.

Aside from blogging, being able to get e-mail has been particularly useful. Just today I received a time sensitive media inquiry from MSNBC, which I was able to then forward to Mark Noonan of Blogs For Bush, whom I thought was better suited for the appearance. (NOTE: he ultimately had to turn it down, but you get the point)

So, for a blogger like myself, I’ve found this to be a valueable piece of of equipment in a really short period of time. I wouldn’t suggest that this is a necessity for all bloggers. If you have a high traffic blog (or blogs) that might require you to be on top of the latest breaking news, and/or potentially or regularly receive time-sensitive emails, you might find this useful.

Post back what you think after you’ve used it for awhile. I’ve considered getting one, but I’ve read some reviews that say it hasn’t been tested enough to be ready for the market.

I too, have a Treo 650, and i’ve had many opportunities to blog with it, and administer my wrath on comments, etc. with it as well.

Re: Wifi; there is an SD WiFi Expansion Card, but I think PalmOne needs to update the firmware on the 650 to enable it. It woudl be nice…
