Living Wills

By Matt Margolis | February 23, 2005

With the Terri Schiavo case back in the news causing outrage, I encourage everyone out there to create a living will to make their wishes known to their family. The reality of this case to me seems to be that if Terri Schiavo’s wishes had been documented and made known to her family that this wouldn’t be in the news today. We all have our opinions about this case and others like it. There is a good chance that soon enough there will be nothing we can do about it, so the best thing to do is learn from this case, and get a living will, send copies to your family and remove any doubt about what you want to happen to you if you ever become in a vegetative state.

Here’s one site that allows you to answer questions to develop a custon living will. I suggest you do your own research as well to know for sure what is required in your state.

People may disagree about what should be Terry Schiavo’s fate, but we should all be able to agree that we don’t want our families going through an ordeal like Terri Schiavo’s family has. So use this site, or by any means you feel necessary… I do suggest you do your own research as well to know for sure what is required in your state.

UPDATE: I’d like to see BlogsForTerri champion this too…

All I know is that I have made it very clear to my family that if there is ever a time where I will be in a vegatative state, and there is no hope of recovering, let me go please! I do feel for the family, all of them.

To all readers this is a very important legal document.Having dealt with my mother who did not have a living will after she suffered a massive stroke. She was more or less in the same situation as Terry Schiavo except she could talk, but sometimes would have the blank stare on her face and dealing with family members who wanted to pull out her feeding tube,I have learned it is best to follow a persons wishes instead of dealing with family and opinions of others. She was bed ridden and in a nursing home, some things to think about are when a person is laying in a bed 24 7 they become weak.My mother suffered a broken femur from the home moving her, also she developed a clot in her leg which finally was the cause of death, she was also in a hospice program the only thing hospice does is make a person comfortable and by comfortable I mean keeping them drugged beyond imagination.A person should only be in Hospice if they know that they will be dying within a certain amount of time.Hospice does not believe in therapies or curing just keeping a person comfortable.Think if a person is drugged they will not know who you are during their final hours ,at least if they go naturally they will have a better idea of who is with them in their final moments.may God Bless all of the souls involved in this case and others who did not have the choice.Amen

Either Terry’s parent don’t believe in God or they are hypocrites. Why keep Terry from being in a perfect state in Heaven if they believe in God? Are they so selfish they would rather keep her in her vegetative state than to be with her Creator?

All I know is I have a young daughter and as much as I love her I could not bear to see her in that state I would want to let her go and be with God what kind of life is this and what happens if something happens to her mother she needs to be with her God

The family has turned that poor girl into a science project. Removing the tube is the most humane thing to do.

If you can justify starving Terri to death because of a brain injury, then you could justify starving anyone who is a brain injury patient, anyone who is mentally retarded and anyone with any kind of mental disorder. I believe Jesus would feed Terri and protect her. I had a brain injury in ‘02. I spent alot of time on the brain injury floor with people like Terri. Starving her to death is not the answer. Let her parents care for her.

Compassionate conservatism stinks as so does liberalism . I wish all of you political minded zealots take a step back in time to dark ages to see that we are not to much different now. We are all, of course, animals on the Same planet! Let her die naturally!!! Send Rush with her.

In order to keep fighting on her behalf for 15 years, her husband must know of her wishes. He could have walked away to a new life, but instead remains to try to make her wishes known. The moral is…make your wishes known in a legal document and tell everyone!

There are many of you that are not very well informed, it seems! Her husband did walk away, as he has been living with another woman for ten years, and has two children with her, Not married but living together. For all I know, she did not say anything about rather dead, than hooked to a machine. How can we believe and trust a man like her husband that has another family, he is probably lying about her wanting to be dead, rather than hooked to a machine. Did anyone else heard her say that, or was it just conveniently her loving husband???? His word against her, only thing she can’t tell us anything and he knows it!
