The Keyes To Stupidity

By Matt Margolis | February 13, 2005

Via Political Teen, I get this story about Alan Keyes’s and his wife disowning and throwing their lesbian daughter of their house.

First of all let me say, I am no fan of Alan Keyes… I think he is a moron, and I heard him talking to reporters at the Republican National Convention, and I was unimpressed. Even though he is a Republican, I would have found myself more likely to not voted for any candidate in his election vs. Barack Obama if I was a citizen of Illinois. This kind of thing makes my opinion of him even less.

    Matt -

I appreciate your willingness to knock him for this nonsense. Too often, we tend to ignore the idiots on our own side and blast the idiots on the other side. The result is that we create a dogmatic echo chamber where all we hear is how wonderful we are and how evil our opponents are. Political honesty is a whole lot tougher than simple-minded cheerleading. Even though I line up on the opposite side of you 99.9% of the time, your willingness to focus your attention for a moment on an embarrassment on the right increases my admiration for your work.

I’ve got to say I’ve never really listened to him or read him. I thought it was silly for him to run for the Senate - Ryan should have stayed in the race and accused the Democrats of being jealous of what he did with his beautiful ex-wife.

Although I don’t believe this is how I would handle the situation if I were in Keyes position, he’s still allowed to live by his own set of morals. He firmly believes the things he stands for, and that includes a strong opposition to gay marriage. I felt very bad for him when hearing this news. It’s too bad a family is split apart by something like this.

Also, you’d ACTUALLY vote for Obama over Keyes? As shocking as Keyes is sometimes, I still have much more in common with him than Obama. He can be a little off target, like supporting tax exemption for blacks for reperations, but I can look past that. Aside from it all, he is a very intelligent man. He’d have my vote over a liberal like Obama (someone who supports abortion on demand, etc).

Ron - agreed. I just wish we could have had more time to recover when Ryan pulled out after the extreme mud-slinging. Keyes did not really have a chance.

Kahn - you’d support Keyes over Obama. That says it all, buddy.

    Dan,

Well, yah. I don’t vote for Democrats as a rule.

I don’t think I could have brought myself to vote for Keyes in that election. I would NOT have voted for Obama, but Keyes is such a nimrod i couldn’t vote for him.

I was reading last week (on yahoo news I think) that Maya Keyes’ vesrion of the story is far from factual. While she is having problems with her father, she was not banished like she’s reporting…and this came from her friends.

Matt - yes…but…the way the Senate is right now….

They vote along party lines every major decision and the Supreme Court will look different soon. If I lived there, I think I would have closed my eyes and voted the party ticket. Honestly, in the other direction I would have voted for Specter also. And I agree with Ann Coulter about him.

    Matt…
First, I’d like you to expand a bit more on why you don’t like Keyes. I supported him in 2000 for his pro-life stand, and his support of a national sales tax.

    But…
I am disturbed too, by his support for reparations for slavery. That seems to counter his former positions.

So, it’s back to the “drawing board” for me. Feel free to email me privately or post here your position. Thanks!

I have to agree with Dan here. I just listened to Sean Hannity’s, “Let Freedom Ring” on Random House Audiobooks. He says, in essence, that even though he’s a Republican, he’s not a “Kool Aide drinker”. I couldn’t have said it better. I voted for Bush because there was a CORE of beliefs that I agreed with the President with that to me was “The Bigger Picture”. I didn’t care for his stupid ideas concerning going to Mars and wasting money on that junk, but I believe in many, if not most of the rest of his agenda, especially the War on terror, the War in Iraq, his position on stem cell research, and his tax cuts that brought us back from the Clinton Recession.
