Sorry Joe, Nothing Personal
By Matt Margolis | December 9, 2004
Tonight was the start of a 3 day conference being held at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. The conference, Internet + Society 2004: Votes, Bits & Bytes, tonight was a forum with Joe Trippi (Dean’s campaign manager) and Michael Turk (eCampaign director for Bush-Cheney ‘04)… The forum was quite interesting. The discussion ranged from how the presidential campaigns utilized the internet for grassroots organization, to what the future holds with the internet and campaign. There was some discussion on blogs and their impact with the media as well. The conference will be keeping me busy all day tomorrow and Saturday, so I’ll give a more detailed report on the forum and the rest of the conference on Sunday.
Also in attendance at the forum tonight was Chuck DeFeo, the eCampaign manager for Bush-Cheney ‘04 (and a panelist at one of the conference events tomorrow). I met Chuck at the convention. We chatted a bit tonight before and after the conference.
I did get the chance to meet both Michael Turk and Joe Trippi tonight. Michael Turk is now the eCampaign director for the Republican National Committee. I told him I hope we’ll see the RNC utilize bloggers in the near future. He also told me how the campaign was regularly monitering the progress of Blogs For Bush, with organizing pro-Bush bloggers — they were all very impressed with what we accomplished.
My little chat with Joe Trippi was a bit different. I introduced myself to Trippi after he spoke a bit with Chuck. I told him my name and I was the guy who started Blogs For Bush. Apparently he knew my name visits the site occasionally. He even remarked about how I’ve made fun of him on the site — and some others here as well. No animosity at all… I just laughed. Hey, sorry Joe, nothing personal.
The rest of the conference should be quite interesting. I will give you all a full report Sunday.

Matt,
I, actually, remember a post you made that was quite complimentary of Joe Trippi. You commented that he would be difficult to replace when Dean was first mentioned as the replacement to head the DNC. As I recall, I was the slack jaw heathen that stated (off the cuff) that Steve Kirsch would be just as effective…Looking forward to your updates.
Cheers

Well I’ll tell you what - it’s hard to get an argument going here these days.
My sister (Smith/Harvard grad living in California) is incoherent when I talk politics these days. She sounds more and more like Michael Moore. “Why did we attack Iraq when 9/11 was all Saudi Arabians!!!!!” She said that over and over last night practically screaming into the phone until I hung up on her. She called back – shocked that I had hung up. Is that the way it is with the rest of the liberals these days? Are you retreating to some deep liberal part of your mind? Do you still think that the Republicans are going to start the draft, destroy social security, and legalize rape?
