Powerline directs us to an interesting article in the Toronto Star.

Can Howard Dean Give The Democrats A Swift Kick In The Ass?

Friday, November 26th, 2004

It is hard to take this Newsweek article seriously because it labels Howard Dean a centrist, but neverthless it poses the question “can Howard Dean save the Democrats?”

Liberal and conservative bloggers seem to like the idea of Howard Dean being chairman the DNC. The former because Howard Dean was their shining light up until his embarrassing finish in Iowa, and the latter for basically the same reason. Those of us on the right foresaw the disaster that would be Howard Dean, and see him as zero threat as DNC Chairman. Nevertheless, Howard Dean’s decision to go for the chairmanship will likely come down to whether or not he plans to run for president again. If the liberal bloggers had a choice, which would they prefer?

Even Howard Dean will have to redefine himself in order to fit in with the Democrats’ four-year plan to recapture the White House… But, if a New England Liberal can’t win the White House, what makes the Democrats think that having a New England liberal running their party will help their party’s candidates win elections?

Democrats know that they have to move to the center in order to have any prospects of winning elections in the near future. Remember, Howard Dean was once a doctor for Planned Parenthood and he had promised during his campaign that if he was elected president he would veto any parental notification law.

I do not see the Democratic Party gaining votes on “that values thing” with him as the face of the party. All I see with Howard Dean running the DNC is more and more red counties and red states. So, with the interests of the Republican Party and the entire country in mind, I say “bring him on!”

Kos, Blogging, and the Election

Thursday, November 25th, 2004

Brian Reich examines The Daily Kos’s role in the election, and Radio Free Blogistan says he “is completely off” on one particular point…

Also via Radio Free Blogistan, I found this CBS article which looks down upon bloggers

Big plans and big claims are to be expected from folks – pajama-clad or not – who are dabbling with new technology and new modalities of public expression. As a retired mainstream media (”MSM”) journalist – and thus a double-dinosaur — I don’t begrudge these knights of the blog-table their grandiose dreams. But I worked on a school paper when I was a kid and I owned a CB radio when I lived in Texas. And what I saw in the blogosphere on Nov. 2 was more reminiscent of that school paper or a “Breaker, breaker 19″ gabfest on CB than anything approaching journalism.

The article then mentions a few “blogs” - which for some reason he included Drudge, which is hardly a blog in my opinion, as well as a short but telling list of virtually all liberal blogs. No mention of Powerline, Little Green Footballs, or even Blogs For Bush

There’s Always An Excuse

Wednesday, November 24th, 2004

Senator-elect Barack Obama (D-IL) says that nationally his party doesn’t know what it stands for.

“We tend to talk more in policy terms and we’ve got our 10-point plans, but we don’t have a narrative, I think, of what it means to be a Democrat,” he tells The Early Show co-anchor Hannah Storm. Obama, keynote speaker at this year’s Democratic National Convention in Boston, was elected in November to the U.S. Senate.

“I think that if you ask the average person on the street: ‘What does it mean to be a Republican?’ - whether they agree with the Republicans or not, they have a clear sense of what the Republican Party stands for, and we’re going to have to, I think, do some intellectual work to make sure we understand what it means to be a Democrat.”

How sad… Besides the fact this is a lame excuse for losing the election, it seems like every time they lose they say they had problems getting their message out, defining what their message is, etc. etc. etc.

Can’t they just accept that a majority of people reject their message?

Rebrand Democrat

Tuesday, November 23rd, 2004

Rob from Say Anything has started a new open-source type blog called “Rebrand Democrat

It’s just too fun and too easy to make fun of Democrats…

UPDATE: Willis needs to leave the kitchen, because he can’t take the heat

UPDATE: Say Anything notes:

Maybe its time for Democrats to find out what it is red state voters don’t like about the left and find some common ground.
