Not This Jew

By Matt Margolis | August 18, 2004

The Washington Times has a story titled, “Jewish vote to remain with Dems” - a bit disturbing if you ask me, so I will proudly say “Not this Jew!”

which says,

Three out of four Jewish voters in the United States will vote for Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., in November, a poll released Monday indicated.

The survey by the National Jewish Democratic Council and the Solomon Project found despite Republican attempts to win over Jewish voters, respondents chose Kerry over President Bush 75 percent to 22 percent. This is largely unchanged from the results during the 2000 election, when 76 percent of Jewish Americans voted for former Vice President Al Gore vs. 21 percent for Bush.

It’s unfortunate so many of my Jewish brothers and sisters still think the Democrat party best serves their interests, but in time they will be free from the bondage of Democrats and have a mass exodus into the promised land of the Republican Party.

Perhaps it will take chosen one, a Deliverer, who can stand up to the Democrat leaders and demand “Let my people go!”

10 Democrat plagues would follow, including tax cuts, conservative judges, a strong military, amongst others… The final Democrat plague would be ‘life for unborn’… driving them over edge… and my fellow Jews would realize how the Democrats don’t hold the same values as they do. These plagues, while devestating the Democrats will bring a spark of hope in my brother and sister Jews, and the rest of America, opening themselves up to a land of security and propserity…

Perhaps I will be that Jew.

Well, the Washington Times is owned by the Reverend Sun Yung Moon, so I guess the Moonie vote is going to Bush.

no this Jew in New Orleans, LA - as far as my fellow congregants at three of our nearby temples are concerned - this report doesn’t hold water

Howard Stern is half-Jewish and he’s not voting for Bush. I guess because Bush is trying to silence and outlaw him for having the audacity to state his own opinion.

    Todd,
    yes I am.

    Jay,
Who the fuck cares about Howard Stern? You can keep telling yourself that Bush has anything to do with Stern being too offensive for radio, but jeez, this is so stupid i can’t believe you keep bringing it up.. you mention this stupid baseless allegation almost as much as kerry mentions vietnam.

Howard was not too indecent for radio until right after he turned anti-Bush. Plus I like to bring up Howard because it riles you so much.

I have yet to hear of hordes of people that didn’t vote for Bush last time suddenly deciding to vote for him. Bush isn’t reaching out to the other side, or even to swing voters; just throwing red meat to his base. You can’t even get into a Bush Political Rally unless you are already a sworn Bush Supporter in the first place. Bush is playing to that 49% who voted for him last time and virtually no one else. Bush doesn’t unite–he divides.

i’ve yet to meet anyone who voted bush in 2000 who is going to vote for kerry.

i’ve met plenty of peopel who voted gore who will vote bush..

but that doesn’t matter.. anyone can have a story like that … i believe bush is more likely to net more votes in 2004 than 2000.

Matt, that’s because you’re surrounding yourself with conservative people. There are plenty of people who voted Bush in 2000 and planning to vote Kerry 2004. That’s where the phrase “Anybody but Bush” comes in. Quite a few people are unhappy with his leadership.

qt, i live in massachusetts.. hello!

my point is, you can claim that the Bush 2000 -> Kerry 2004 switch is dominant, i can say the Gore 2000 -> Bush 2004 switch is dominant … but it’s anecdotal evidence.. it means nothing… the truth based on what i’ve seen, even here in liberal massachusetts is that more people have more respect for Bush, citing in particular his leadership post-9/11.. i have yet to meet any person who voted bush in 2000 that is going to vote for kerry. i’m not saying there isn’t any.. but you cannot say in all certainty that there is this large movement of converts…

I don’t trust this poll too much, after all, it was conducted by the National Jewish Democratic Council
    A bit biased, no?
(The same would go for the RJC’s polls as well).

I’m a Jew, who voted for Gore, but is now going to vote for Bush in ‘04

but you’re right. it’s not a large movement, but there are still a number of people switching…

Once again Jay shows his super smarts:

“Howard was not too indecent for radio until right after he turned anti-Bush. Plus I like to bring up Howard because it riles you so much.”

Just don’t pay any attention the the FCCs fines he recieved during the 90s. (Oh damn there I go again, fixating on the Clinton years. Bad, bad elephant.)

I’m pretty sure I remember seeing a poll that found almost twice as many Bush-to-Kerry people as Gore-to-Bush people. But, I can’t remember where and a cursory websearch didn’t find it, and it was several months ago, so the numbers might be different by now. Anecdotally, I know a few of each. My family has a bunch of Bush-to-Kerry folks, mostly because they’re big on keeping spending down and they think (probably correctly) that the best way to do that is get a divided government.

Actually djw, you might let your family know that the best way to get MORE spending is to have a divided govt. The only way the people in “govt” agree on anything is “okay, you agree to give me this $$, I’ll give you that $$”.

I can think of 3 Gore voters voting for Bush this year– Zell Miller, Ed Koch, Randy Kelly.

Gee…all this time I thought you were Italian Catholic, being from Boston and Margolis sounds just a little wee bit Italian to me. What’s the story on your background, Matt? By the way, didja hear that Kerry’s Great Grandmother was Jewish?

  22. Michael Says:

By thee way, I know of at least three prominant jews who are voting for Bush this year: actor Ben Stein, former New York Mayor Eed Koch and there’s a third guy who’s name excapes me for the moment

I just want to say that though i am not religious at all, it does not mean that I don’t know hatred and sensless murder when I see it. Before 9/11 I would be brought to tears by the scenes of the latest homicide bombing in Israel. After 9/11 I realized that It really is the west against radical Islam. All but the most stupid hatemongers in the USA feel a bond with Israel. Dont let anyone tell you that your struggles will be forgotten in the US. Kerry only wants to see his own country go to hell, and Israel with it.
