Kerrymandering And Corruption

By Matt Margolis | June 30, 2004

The Massachusetts House has voted to approve the bill to call for a special election if John Kerry were to vacate his seat in the Senate should he possibly win in November.

It’s kind of funny how desperate Democrats are to protect their own by changing the rules when it suits their purpose - heck even sometimes the rules have been ignored (cough-cough Lautenberg cough-cough)…

Part of me doesn’t care because John Kerry isn’t going to win anyways, but this law is still going to be on the books now - atleast until a future situation would benefit the Mass Dems more by reversing it.

Well Lord knows we can’t have that Republican Governor Romney appointing a replacement. After all, he/she might actually show up for Roll Call votes and cast one!

Jesus, Matt- Change the rules? Have you forgotten about Texas and Colorado? I wonder where Massachusetts got the idea?

Your willingness to politicize is truly remarkable.

it was already political Jack… long before I wrote about it.

So Matt, why aren’t you bitching about the Republicans in Texas and Colorado who redrew their districts?

I must only assume you have major issues when Democrats have control over redistricting plans? I mean, I’m sure you don’t have a problem with Republicans controlling the process - because certainly you’re not looking at the inssue of redistricting/gerrymandering in a partisan way.

Just because they are partisian does not mean you’re not partisian Matt.

“I must only assume you have major issues when Democrats…”

Matt, what the hell are you talking about? The question was simple enough. We don’t hear word one from you when the legislatures of Texas and Colorado break longstanding tradition in gerrymandering their districts, blatently changing the rules in the middle of the game… but now because its the Democrats… holy hell, you say. Sorry, Matt. We’re not buying it.

Matt, the GOP redistricting in CO and TX is different than any we have seen before. Of course, BOTH sides will try and draw districts that favor their candidates, especially when they have control of the process. But what makes the Texas (Colorado’s was thrown out by the courts) so eggerious was that it wasn’t done in response to a census. This was a blatant power grab. At least in Mass., while the democrats are clearly being partisan, they are simply trying to hold a seat that they won fair and square in a regularly scheduled election.
