A Vote For Whitey Is Racist

By Matt Margolis | April 28, 2004

I’ve never watched American Idol.
I don’t care about the show.
Hell, I don’t even know much about it beyond its basic concept.

Okay, so it’s like a Star Search reality show where viewers vote for their favorite person.

Woopeee.

Why is it I am not surprised that the Race Card has been played with this show because of a black contestant being voted off the show?

Singing legend Elton John this week joined the chorus of voices decrying “American Idol” as racist.

John criticized the talent show’s voting process, carried out not by the trio of on-air judges but by the American viewing public.

“The three people I was really impressed with — and they just happened to be black, young female singers — all seem to be landing in the bottom three,” the British singer said Tuesday during a promotional appearance for his concert at New York’s Radio City Music Hall.

Okay, just because Elton is enthralled by the coincidentally black, young female singers, that means that if the general public disagrees with Sir Elton then by golly, they must be racist pigs pulling for whitey.

Give me a break.

I’m so glad Elton John is one of the annoited few who has such a politically correct perspective that he’s pulling for the three black singers.

I’m sick of this Race Card business. Perhaps America should just vote for the minorities because that’s the nice thing to do? Maybe it’s just politically correct to do that, or maybe people just can’t stand the tought of being called a racist.

Whatever.

In the game of life, people win, people lose, sometimes you have to lose, regardless of the color of your skin. Lose with some dignitiy instead of whining.

yeah… i’m tired of all the whining about race. Stand up for yourself, quit gettin’ rich, arrogant, elitist crackers to do your grunt-work. Be counted as a human, not as a “this” or a “that” label.

I know Simon runs the show and he’s a Brit, but the show is “American Idol” not “flamboyantly gay british idol.” Whoever the public wants, the public will vote for. I don’t watch it myself, I’ve got better things to do with my time. Err..I guess that makes me racist against wannabe popstars.

I agree that the American Idol thing seemed off the mark but there are still a lot of race problems in America. Not everybody is “playing the race card” when they talk about racism in America. It would be wrong to assume that we are in the clear here in our country. There is a lot of minority turmoil still going on. I feel like when we begin to acknowledge the ignorance of racism in our own mind that many of us forget how many people will not make that acknowledgement. Of course homosexuality is an ever rising issue in our culture these days. Every time it seems one issue is on the decline another issue comes out of the closet. Discrimination is a weapon of mass destruction.

I’ve got to say… that’s pretty ridiculous. I highly doubt that the majority of people who are taking the time to vote in American Idol are sitting and thinking, “Oh, I can’t vote for such and such nor such and such because they’re black.” While there is racism in this country, I still have faith that the vast majority of people aren’t like that and are voting based upon who’s performance they liked more.

hudson was wayyyyyy better than the others. Race? Who knows. Maybe it cause people are voting for other reasons other than who’s got the most talent.

Racism is a card played all too often. But anyone who dares ever question anything Bush ever did get called anti-American. Or gay

Oh, I see there is no entry regarding Bush’s testifying off the record with his ventriloquist Cheney about 9/11 only after intense public pressure.

I have an “insider’s” view of how the race card is played every day. It’s shameful.

I don’t see the point to all the bs about Jennifer Hudson’s departure. She just auditioned infront of every record exec in the country for the last two months. If she is really that talented, she’ll have a deal. I just wish everyone would STFU about it.

It was strange that three of the best singers, the three Black women, scored in the bottom three on one particular week. I don’t understand that, accept for a lack of taste in the people voting.
But racist? Take a look at how the voting has gone on the show.
Who’s been voted off, and who’s left? All the White contestants are gone, with the exception of Diana Digarmo (and is she Latino?), and were voted off FIRST. All the Black contestants are still there, with the exception on Jennifer Hudson, who had barely survived on another elimination.
Now, look at the final five on the “who will win?” banner. Uh huh. This group is the result of racism?

Christ- Elton sounded so much smarter when he let albums like ‘11/17/70′ and ‘Don’t Shoot Me, I’m Only The Piano Player’ do his talking for him.

What is the point of permitting the public to vote if some people will object and bitch if the results aren’t to their liking? Why not just fix the whole event and get it over with? Someone has to lose, correct? And let’s be REALISTIC for a second: even those who “lose” have garnered enough publicity and contacts to make the whole thing more than worthwhile.

The kneejerk “racism” chant is beyond old and is insulting to those who suffered true racist treatment.
