Kerry’s True Colors

By Matt Margolis | March 8, 2004

The rich white Senator from Massachusetts should be regretting his poor choice of words last week when he said “President Clinton was often known as the first black president. I wouldn’t be upset if I could earn the right to be the second.”

Well, a civil rights group is now demanding an apology.

The head of a civil rights and legal services advocacy group wants Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry to apologize for saying he wouldn’t be upset if he could be known as the second black president.

Paula Diane Harris, founder of the Andrew Young National Center for Social Change, had a few words on this in a statement released today.:

John Kerry is not a black man– he is a privileged white man who has no idea what it is in this country to be a poor white in this country, let alone a black man. Civil Rights leaders in this nation sit back and ignore these types of comments, a practice that further insults African Americans. It seems that all these leaders care about is their personal agendas in how a “John Kerry” will keep up their personal causes. They forget about the issues that affect our people, especially our young people, who are struggling every single day to obtain an equal, quality public education.

Ouch. I’m sure John Kerry didn’t expect his stupid comment to ever ketchup to him. Perhaps Kerry needs to rethink his strategy to win the support of the African-American community. Ms. Harris continued:

Kerry’s comment is another example of the mentality of some members of the Democrat Party who take black votes for granted. It is time our votes were earned. This election is too important for ALL Americans to have time for this type of theatrical statement. To the candidates, I say, “Stick to the issues that affect ALL Americans and run on your voting record and the issues. Stop trying to single out one minority group in this country for their votes. If you want black votes, EARN THEM by sticking to the issues in what you as president are going to do if you are elected.”

And what did the Kerry campaign have to say in defense of his stupid comment?

“This was intended as a light-natured remark about President Clinton’s strong legacy with African Americans It is a legacy that John Kerry would like to build upon if elected president. John Kerry has a record of fighting for civil rights and as president he will continue this fight.”

Oh really? Does he feel their pain too? Clearly, the Kerry campaign didn’t get the message.

When interviewed the other day, Kerry claimed that Bush’s use of images of 9-11 were inappropriate, and cited the reactions of the firefighters (well, at least the firefighters union which endorsed him,) saying “given the fact [the firemen] are uncomfortable with it I think it is inappropriate.”

Well, I guess since this civil rights group is not comfortable with Kerry’s exploitation of black voters he ought to stop pandering to minorities so inappropriately in the future - at the very least he could apologize!

John Kerry also defended his use of Vietnam because he “was there” it’s his, and it was a war he fought in.

Has John Kerry looked in a mirror lately? He’s white. He’s rich. Where’s the connection to being black? Apparently, while Vietnam belongs to him – he must think the black vote belongs to him too.

Ms. Harris really drove the point home when she said, “Until you are born black in America and have walked in our shoes you will never earn the right as a white man to be called a black president.”

Kerry isn’t Black, but George Bush sure as hell isn’t Texan either. Last time I checked a map New Haven, Connecticut wasn’t in Texas. And Praire Chapel Ranch got bought in 1999. That’s an old Bush family estate all right.

Kerry said he wants to be the “second black president” yet Jay says he isn’t black. It must be another Haliburton conspiracy concocted by the right-wing cabal on the planet Zurkon 4. NEWSFLASH: Jay says Bush isn’t a Texan! Stop the presses! ANOTHER NEWSFLASH: Hillary Clinton/The Hildabeast isn’t a New Yorker. Oh, she’s/it’s a democrat, nothing to see here, move along.

Your mudslinging against Kerry is pathetic. Families of victims of the 9-11 attacks have requested that Bush pull the ad. These families Have not contributed to any political party. I am appalled that one who would proclaim such divine intellectuality could support a man who would rape a tragedy such as 9-11 to further his political career.
Put more points up on Bush’s lie counter, he promised not to use 9-11 as a media issue, well, he did.
