Is Dean Going To Quit?
By Matt Margolis | February 15, 2004
The Associated Press is reporting that the former Democrat frontrunner Howard Dean is “is preparing to abandon his race for the Democratic presidential nomination if he loses Wisconsin’s primary,” according to several advisors.
Yes, first Dean said he’d drop out if he lost Wisconsin, then he said he’d stay in… now it looks like Dean might actually go back to his original plan to drop out.
Steve Grossman, national chairman of Dean’s campaign, said the former Vermont governor will seek to convert his grass-roots network into a movement that helps expand the party and elect the Democratic nominee — “and, obviously, that looks likely to be John Kerry.”
Well, it’s obviously not Howard Dean.
Of course, this would be a strange move for Howard Dean. A couple weeks ago Dean called John Kerry a “Republican”.
Why would Dean help out a candidate that he’s branded a Republican? What’s really driving Dean’s efforts? Is it his desire to help his party, or is it just his hatred for George W. Bush? Is Dean Mr. Independent Thinker like his supporters believe, or is he just another politician who likes to see a (D) after someone’s name?
It looks like Dean had to learn the hard way that a campaign based on hatred just doesn’t get you votes.
