What David Kay Said That The Left Won’t Tell You

By Matt Margolis | January 25, 2004

By now we’re pretty used to cries from the left about quotes being “taken out of context,” which is usually followed by “Read the whole thing!”

So, let’s take a look at the whole picture of what David Kay, the former top weapons inspector in Iraq, had to say today on National Public Radio (NPR):

“We led this search to find the truth, not to find the weapons. The fact that we found so far the weapons do not exist, we’ve got to deal with that difference and understand why.”

When asked if he feels President Bush owes an apology to the American people for starting the Iraq war based on alleged flawed intelligence David Kay said:

“I actually think the intelligence community owes the president rather than the president owing the American people.

Even David Kay sees this as not a political issue:

“You have to remember that this view of Iraq was held during the Clinton administration and didn’t change in the Bush administration. It is not a political `got you’ issue. It is a serious issue of how you could come to the conclusion that is not matched by the future.”

So there you have it, the quotes that the left won’t show you regarding David Kay’s recent assessments in Iraq.

UPDATE: Instapundit has also uncovered this quote from The Telegraph.

David Kay, the former head of the coalition’s hunt for Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction, yesterday claimed that part of Saddam Hussein’s secret weapons programme was hidden in Syria.

In an exclusive interview with The Telegraph, Dr Kay, who last week resigned as head of the Iraq Survey Group, said that he had uncovered evidence that unspecified materials had been moved to Syria shortly before last year’s war to overthrow Saddam.

“We are not talking about a large stockpile of weapons,” he said. “But we know from some of the interrogations of former Iraqi officials that a lot of material went to Syria before the war, including some components of Saddam’s WMD programme. Precisely what went to Syria, and what has happened to it, is a major issue that needs to be resolved.”

Dr Kay’s comments will intensify pressure on President Bashar Assad to clarify the extent of his co-operation with Saddam’s regime and details of Syria’s WMD programme. Mr Assad has said that Syria was entitled to defend itself by acquiring its own biological and chemical weapons arsenal.

As it should be. I’m not sure what the roadblock is but we ought to do something soon.

Again I dont find this to be a ‘right/left’ issue. Bush had full intention of going into Iraq from the beginning, regardless of how the hand played out. Is that bad? Yes and no, lets move on.

I’ve got another wild theory here that is based on his previous actions and the previous actions of most politicians who find themselves under the microscope. It’s called ‘FIND A FALL GUY’. This time his administration has got David Kay saying its US Intelligence that f*ked up. Nice deflection, been done before and we’ll see it again. Ok, the mainstream dumbass has forgotten and is back to watching American Idol, crisis averted.

My real fault with his administration is that it had no plan for post-Saddam Iraq. I thought there were actaully intelligent men (and women) behind this president? Who dresses the man in the morning? Now we’ve got American soldiers over there dying for no good reason, money spent hand over fist to test our toys and grease our business partners which our children will have to pay back, and what will most likely be a hotbed for terrorists for decades to come because of an inevitable weak central government. Read that last line again and ponder it for a moment.

some of us care about our national security. Iraq had to be dealt with. I’m glad George W. Bush chose to do something about it.

    Missing WMD
Wanted to blog something on the WMD but Matt said it all so just go read his post. From what I’ve heard (FoxNews), seems there was flawed intelligence on both sides here. We thought Saddam had the weapons. So did he.

Sides which, no one has looke…
