Howard Dean’s Angry Rage
By Matt Margolis | January 22, 2004
Howard Dean’s temper was rampant Monday tonight when he gave his speech to his supporters. I watched in amazement as he just screamed his head off, fighting off the embarrassment and disappointment. The “biggest presidential grassroots campaign” just didn’t cut the mustard (and certainly didn’t cut the ketchup) tonight.
One might say, it cut the cheese.
Remember the Angry Dean that everyone but the Deanites saw on this campaign? Remember that temper that Dean’s supporters have been oblivious to?
That Angry Dean came out in full force tonight. Shielding his disappointment, he put up a shameful front full of rage to keep his supporters energized…
You know what? You know something? You know something? If you had told us one year ago that we were going to come in third in Iowa, we would have given anything for that….
Yeah, do you know something Howard Dean? A few weeks ago if you had told us you weren’t going win Iowa, most people wouldn’t have believed it either. It was yours to lose and you lost it.
And you know something? You know something? Not only are we going to New Hampshire, we’re going to South Carolina and Oklahoma and Arizona and North Dakota and New Mexico! We’re going to California and Texas and New York! And we’re going to South Dakota and Oregon and Washington and Michigan! And then we’re going to Washington, D.C.. To take back the White House!
Ahh, suddenly Iowa is no longer an important state to win.. just all of the other states…
We will not give up. We will not give up in New Hampshire. We will not give up in South Carolina. We will not give up in Arizona or New Mexico, Oklahoma, North Dakota, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan! We will not quit now or ever! We want our country back for ordinary Americans. And we’re going to win in Massachusetts! And North Carolina! And Missouri! And Arkansas! And Connecticut! And New York! And Ohio!
The only state Dean shouldn’t give up on is Vermont, because he’s going to be stomping back there very soon.
Most of all, let me thank you from all over America, coming here to change this country. We haven’t seen this in 30 years.
This is the changing of the generations, the passing of the torch to the new generation. It is your generation. And it’s your generation that’s fueling this campaign because you know that the half trillion-dollar deficit this president is piling up are going to be billed to you and your children, because of the terrible damage this president is doing to the environment are going to be things that you’re going to have to live with.
Ahh, the typical angry Dean rhetoric… He’s hurt, but he knows he has to keep his supporters energized, and it’s anti-Bush attacks that seemed to work for Dean through most of his campaign. The Dean campaign is officially on damage control.
And we’re going to change that. And you have the power to change that. And we are starting right tonight.
Dean’s website boasts that they wrote 78,000 handwritten letter to Iowans. This was a big part of his overall campaign strategy. In fact it was Step One! The Dean campaign must be dumbfounded. They’re so dumbfounded, the best thing they can do is blame is sharp drop in Iowa on attacks made by his rivals.
I guess Dean’s policies have nothing to do with it? I guess Dean’s flip-flops, his gaffes, and his temper have nothing to do with it?
Howard Dean’s display in Iowa was a huge embarrassment. He’s imploding. His face got red, his gestures reminded me of someone in a violent rage. He was an angry man – and what we saw tonight was just another reason why this man, Howard Dean, is not fit to be President of the United States.
Iowans apparently agree.
UPDATE: Thanks to Drudge, we have an audio clip of Dean’s insanity.
UPDATE 2: Byron York at National Review Online wrote an interesting article on Dean losing it last night on stage. He wrote:
His reaction to the loss in Iowa brought to mind statements Dean made on January 8, in an interview with People magazine, in which Dean discussed the emotional difficulties he has sometimes had dealing with stressful situations.
I first brought up Dean’s anxiety issue last Friday. It seems like Dean’s performance last night is not going help that revelation by Dean go away.

Matt,
Two observations on Dean:
1) He verifies my wisdon on liberals. It’s what I call my “Three Outs about Liberals”
When they are OUT OF power
it’s because they’re OUT OF touch
and they become OUT OF control! [insert picture of Dean at the Iowa Caucuses]
2) On my way to this library today, it occured to me; What if Dean is so obsessed with winning the election, that if he doesn’t win the Democratic nomination, that he’ll leave the Dems, at least until after the election, and run as an independent?
Now, a question for Howard Dean, and the other canidates(I dare any of these guys to actually thoughtfully spend time reading this web site); Sirs, you keep mentioning things like, “…Taking the Whitehouse back from the special interests” Can any of you clowns pleas stop insulting us and specify what exactly do you mean by this? What are “special intersests” in your mind? Isn’t this really a made up buzz word for Republicans and Conservatives? Until you take the time to specify these terms, I’m going to make a conscious effort to drown you guys out!

Hah… Matt you are hilarious….. By jumping at the chance to talk smack about Dean just because of a little exuberance you are making it very clear… You are afrad of him, you see him as a threat.
you know that that really does havbe a good chance of usurping the presidency from the oval office’s current occupant….. I know that that you will be truly sad the day that America becomes a democracy once again…..

Afraid of Dean?
Hell I’m gonna vote for him in the Massachusetts primary.. I want to take him down myself in November.
If you theory were revered, Dean’s attacks on George W. Bush mean Dean is scared shitless of him.

Umm no….. actually there is a big difference, Dean attacks bush because he disagrees with him ideologically and is competing for Bush’s job… You attack Bush because you are a neo-con goon…

I’m sure you meant Dean… nevertheless I attack Dean because I disagree with him ideologically and is competing for Bush’s job… You attack Bush because you are a left-wing nut.

oops my bad ….. I’m kinda tired, I had a long day… But anyway I suggest for the future that we shy away from childish name-calling….
the biggest problem with the BUSH administration is its love affair with special interests groups(large corporations)

the biggest problem with the BUSH administration is its love affair with special interests groups(large corporations) - Mason
As opposed to the Dems love of trial lawyers, unions, and racial special interest groups? Please. Besides the corporation give almost as much money to the Dems as they do the Republicans. Who approoved loans to Enron? Clinton. (http://www.corpwatch.org/issues/PID.jsp?articleid2278) Who did not? Bush. But Bush is ‘owned’ by the corporations. Try reading something besides Democratic Underground.

the keyword is ALMOST…… besides this, what is your problem Labor Unions? Is it that they stand up for workers rights? Is it that they demand fair pay? is it that they demand safe working conditions? I mean really….
and trial lawyers???? whats that about?
January 25th, 2004 at 12:10 am
trial lawyers predominantly donate to the Dems (look at Edwards)
January 25th, 2004 at 1:45 pm
Mason my problem with unions boils down to one word: tenure. Tenure, for teachers, and it unofficial cousins in other union systems keeps drug addicts, the lazy, and the incompetent on the job. Thus the business loses productivity (and money - which means tax revenue), and COMPETENT employees do not get hired. Why again is this a GOOD thing? As for ’safe working conditions’ ever heard of OSHA? Fair pay? Please define ‘fair pay’. And considering that the Dems get virtually ALL of the Union donations, I would say that the Dems are more ‘owned’ than th Republicans.
You won’t agree, but then you are a Leftists PARTISAN.
January 25th, 2004 at 6:35 pm
first off Labor unions were around long before OSHA(OSHA came into existance 1971) So at one time unions were neccessary for guaranteeing workers their rights and saftety….. As for tenure, thats bullshit, if you dont do your job(right) you get fired, its that simple….
January 25th, 2004 at 7:00 pm
Mason, it doesn’t work that way. excluding professors, certain workers at my former university were union workers. the people who coook an maintain the various food services on campus… one time there was a woman who was always late and not doing her job. in speaking with her boss she said there was nothing she could do because she could not get fired… at best they can switch her position to some other duties.
not to mention unions often ensure a pay which is usually higher than what the market value for someone of that job type is worth. This causes less people to be hired and more people who need jobs to not have them.
January 25th, 2004 at 11:00 pm
so maybe thats one particular union….. not all unions are like that
January 27th, 2004 at 1:21 am
Yes mason.. I just happened to discover that one anomalous union.
