“High Ground” Hits Rock Bottom

By Matt Margolis | December 10, 2003

With all their bitching and whining about conservative talk radio, liberals have invested a lot of time and money to create their own liberal talk radio to help “get their message out.”

As was predicted, the project failed, when after a colossal two day run the show’s host quit.

Jeff Gerbino, a comedian who hosted “High Ground” on Minneapolis’ WMNN for the first two days of the show’s existence said the former Democratic candidate who created the show was forcing him to make it a “shameless plug for the DFL,” according to the Star Tribune newspaper. DFL is the abbreviation for what the Democratic Party is called in Minnesota, the Democrat-Farmer-Labor Party

They just don’t get it.

Despite the false start, Janet Robert, a wealthy attorney who ran unsuccessfully for the U.S. House last year, warned not to judge the show by the first two days. She told the paper the program was designed to be centrist and independent, and that “Jeff was the one that was trying to push us too far to the left.”

Riiiiiiiiiight. Centrist and independent? :Liberals aren’t trying this radio thing to be “centrist and independent.”

Why did we all know Liberal Talk Radio would fail? The answer is pretty clear in the next part of the story:

Gerbino, however, claims Robert was scheduling only Democrats on the show. Indeed, on the show’s second day, Nov. 25, one hour’s guests included: Sen. Mark Dayton, U.S. Rep. Jim Oberstar, Attorney General Mike Hatch, a professor discussing the Democratic presidential field, state Rep. Tom Rukavina and author Al Franken – all Democrats, the paper reported. Gerbino described the hour as a “donkey telethon” and said Robert criticized him for not “gushing” enough over Dayton and Oberstar.

In other words, Gerbino was asked to fake wonder and adulation for liberals. Essentially, it was designed to be partisan and bogus.

The reason why talk radio has been successful is because it arouse as an alternative to overwhelmingly liberal media in television and newspapers. Popular conservative talk show hosts today, including Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity, worked their way up to being successful.

Liberals just don’t get it.

That is why they failed in talk radio.

That’s correct, Matt. Talk show hosts really aren’t Conservative pawns. No, they are really extreme leftists who whore themselves to the American public with a three-hour rightwing circle-jerk just to earn a buck.

Yet another idiotic remark from the fascist right.

Here is the deal. The Republicans control the media, the executive branch, the Supreme Court, and both houses of Congress YET you still complain non-stop about EVERYTHING. It sounds to me as though this country is a liberal nation. The issues that most Americans are in favor of are liberal issues. Deal with it.

And another thing, get used to hearing “President Dean.”

Would somebody please translate Java’s sentence for me? Would somebody please provide a link to a reputable news source to clarify Java’s contention. And no, NewsMax is not a reputable new source.

    Republicans hardly control the meida.

Jaws, I am not sure what level of involvement the Republicans have with the meida, but the owners of the major media, as well as the editors, are Republican.

As for NBC, CBS and CBS. How are they liberally biased? I mean, they have approximately 20 minutes a day in the early evening to go over the day’s stories. How is that significant? As for CNN, they are the most politically unbiased news organization we currently have.

There’s a better chance of Dean Martin rising from the dead and becoming president.

Vero, I am Mikelx, a liberal …. a individual. I am not Liberalssssss. M’kay? Your debating skills seem to be very limited since you can only debate against straw men. Try debating with me over the things that I say. It makes you look foolish when you attempt to debate like the Ann Coulters of the world.

As for President Dean, he and I agree on many issues, but I don’t pay that much attention to him. It is apparent to me that he is going to when the nomination, and since he will be going up against a man who has lied to the nation and the world, it is very likely that there will be a President Dean.

“you” fit the type of leftist I have been discussing politics with since early part of 2000

Vero, I have been debating online for 8 years, and your style of debate is similar to that of a rightwinger who has only debated for 3 years.

The rightwingidealogue republican oligarchy is going to take over the world.

Troll, it is apparent that your soul purpose is to be a raging A-Hole, but if you had read my post clearly, you would have understood that I made it clear that since Repbublicans own virtually the entire Gummint and the media, they still don’t have control of the issues.

LOL I am getting lectured on conspiracy theories from the side that claims Bush lied and knew about 9-11 so his VP could help out a company he is no longer affiliated with

Cannon, I am Mikelx, not a “side.” Strawman arguments are for lamers who can’t debate logically.

But since you (and Vero) enjoy Strawman arguments, let me remind you that it was “your side” that accused President Clinton of drug running, rape and murder. It is “your side” that designed the Tin-Foil Hat, and it is “your side” that wrote the rules on accussing your opponent of wrong-doing.

Anyway off to go fry my brain on my food and beverage cost control final so I can put this horrid semester behind me.

Is this what I am up against … college students? High school students? The experience level of rightwingers in this blog is very low, and it shows in the way you debate. My knowledge of nasty politics goes back before you started playing kickball on the playground.

*sorry if this ends up being a duplicate post. I got a timed out message the first time*

Mikey I guess you have never heard of an adult going back to school for continuing education. Many of the children in my class were barely half way through grade school when I started college for the first degree. And many of the children looking to apply for the 2004-05 freshmen class were still in diapers when I started. (I am going to school full time and working full time. Taking responsibility to improve my own life instead of relying on the government to give me a hand out because “I deserve it”.) Ahhh but being the wise person you are, you never considered that. I am very proud of what I am achieving so with no respect due, mikey you can shut up.

Your knowledge of politics goes back to when I was playing kickball? Ok you must be 50-60 then, right? Hmmm ever ran for office? ever done a campaign blitz? ever been on the phones for weeks on end GOTVing? ever worked a county where you managed to get your party’s candidates elected when every statutory office was held by the other party? ever been a Republican in Illinois where individual donks vote early and often, where even the dead vote? If you have then your level of working political knowledge will match up with mine.

Tell you what mikey, when 14% of the public says the media is too liberal with 44% saying it is too conservative (instead of they reality of the public saying the opposite) I will believe you when you say that the Republicans have control of the media.

As far as not being a “side” mikey ok you are not a “side” you are nothing more than a parrot:

    President Dean!

    President Dean!

    President Dean!

    President Dean!

    playing. Buh bye.

Canon, the remark wasn’t necessarily directed at you. However, since folks on this blog are fascinated with flaming, then I will assume that your skin is thick enough to handle it when you are targeted.

Ahhh but being the wise person you are, you never considered that. I am very proud of what I am achieving so with no respect due, mikey you can shut up.

Is that your Bill O’Reilly impersonation?

If you have then your level of working political knowledge will match up with mine.

Cannon, your experience in politics is one thing, but forming a logical argument is another. From what I have seen from you in the last 24 hours, you are lacking in the latter. Perhaps you should prove me wrong.

Tell you what mikey, when 14% of the public says the media is too liberal with 44% saying it is too conservative (instead of they reality of the public saying the opposite) I will believe you when you say that the Republicans have control of the media.

When the public is told that the media is too liberal numerous times daily by rightwing loudmouths in the media, the polls will reflect this. I watch the mainstream news looking for this so-called liberal bias, and I just don’t see it. I do see, however, a couple of news programs that are blatantly rightwing, yet I don’t find any program that is blatant towards the left.

But it is clear that you missed the point. Most of the media (if not all) is owned by wealthy Republicans. Reporting news accurately without a bias is not important to these folks. Their primary reason for owning this business is to make a profit. It is that simple.

As far as not being a “side” mikey ok you are not a “side” you are nothing more than a parrot

Do you lack a sense of humor, Cannon? President Dean! President Dean! President Dean! President Dean!

If a group of people have a common goal, does mean that they are parroting someone elses thoughts and goals? Isn’t this human nature? “Where’s the beef?” “Can you hear me now?” “MegaDittos, Rush!” Do you catch my drift? Rightwingers are notorious for parroting political points of view. Dean is the first candidate to finally bring out some harsh questions about the actions of the Bush administration pre-9/11. Here’s a little history lesson:

The Clinton administration set up a Predator drone and a nuclear in the Indian Ocean to try to kill Osama Bin Laden. Twice the drone was used to attack OBL but failed because Clinton didn’t give the order in time. 17 Americans died in an attack on the USS Cole in October 2000, the report citing Al Qaeda as the culprit was delivered to the White House six days after President Bush was sworn into office. Bush did nothing for nine months.

The CIA got OBL in their sites twice during the spring of 2001, both times Bush would not give the order to strike. Finally, Rumsfeld ordered the Predator drone disabled and the nuclear sub out of the Indian Ocean and in May 2001 Bush told the CIA to lay off if Bin Laden. On August 6, 2001 Condaleeza Rice delivered a note to the Oval Office stating that intel was warning of a possible imminent terrorist attack on domestic soil. Bush was on vacation that month.

The president’s initial reaction to receiving the news of the second plane hitting the WTC on 9/11 was to read a story about a pet goat to a class of first graders for seventeen minutes. Cheney immediately called staffers wondering if this was good enough reason to hit Iraq. On September 14 of 2001, someone gave the order for 114 members of the Bin Laden family to be flown out of the country when all other planes were grounded.

Now I don’t believe that this is evidence that Bush engineered 9/11 or allowed it to happen. I honestly don’t think he knew what was going on. What other explanation is there for his bizarre behavior that day? I can only speculate that with the political arm of the administration running everything under the watchful eye of Karl Rove, no attention was paid to the Al Qaeda threat. However, rumors and conspiracy theories will continue to abound until Bush comes clean with an explanation as to what went wrong, which Karl Rove will not allow him to do. Dean is going to harp on this to score political points, and during one recent debate he finally became the first politician with enough cojones to mention Saudi Arabia, the country that funded 9/11 and provided 15 of the 19 hijackers. Maybe he will also point out how Afghanistan has sunk into chaos and rightly castigate Bush when he pulls us out of Iraq next summer to help his reelection.

I have posted this other places and the uniform response of Bush supporters is essentially a covering of the ears and a constant repetition of “NYEH NYEH NYEHNYEHNYEH I’M NOT LISTENING!”

Mikelx, You claiming that you are an “expert” at nasty politics and debate doesn’t carry much weight because all you produce are crackpot, paranoid delusions about how the evil republicans control the media. You muddy the waters with a little blather about “republicans own the media but they don’t control the issues”. Then what do you care? Throughout your screeds are the same hackneyed liberal cliches that have been around in various forms for eight years. That’s a long time and you still can’t come up with original material. So much for you being an “expert”. These paranoid cliches have even lost their comedic value. As far as me being an A-hole, contempt and sarcasm are all you deserve as you have no problem treating others in the same manner. Oh, I’m sorry, I forgot, when you do it, it’s a “hard-hitting debating technique”. I’m sure you’ll respond with more dubious boasts about what “mean leftist political debating machine” you are when in reality you are a petty little liberal drone with too much time on its hands. Go ahead and keep posting if you want but your credibility has sunk to the point where you’ll only get contempt and ridicule as a response.

  38. TrollBaiter Says:
    December 13th, 2003 at 2:08 pm

Jay, here’s a little “reality lesson”. The reason you get a negative response from Bush supporters is that first you report all these “alarming facts” about Bush and then you say that they are “rumors and conspiracy theories” Which is it? These rumors and theories come across like negative propaganda generated by the Democrats in a lame attempt to score cheap political points. If they are indeed factual and not fabricated or taken out of context, it would serve you well to provide credible links to bolster your claims. Whatever you do, don’t use sites like “Liberal Moonbats for Dean.com” (being sarcastic) as credible links, otherwise your credibility will drop to zero and you will be laughed off the website.

I just asked that you “show” me that you could form a logical argument. Is that too much to ask?

But you see Mikey unlike you and your attempt to get some recognition (negative though it is) by screeching on a conservative site

Screech? Are you into hyperbole and exageration, Cannon? According to Matt’s rules, I am welcome here. If you can’t keep up with me, then perhaps you should step out of the ring.

Face it Mikey, child, you can’t win on this forum.

I have already won. You have stopped discussing politics and have decided to make me the issue. You have changed the subject.

You will never be able to show how your delusions are the Truth.

Translation: My mind is make up, and it is closed to any discussion no matter how reasonable.

You talk about logical arguments, yes they are important. But Mikey, child, it is you who are lacking in that department.

I encourage you to point this out to me if it happens, and that you debate me rather than a “side.”

I understand it is hard for you to see that, after all you “know” you are right.

So are you saying that I should debate with uncertainty instead of confidence?

However your knowledge is nothing more than the illusions of a child like intellect.

Matt, if you don’t get these flamers under control, it will get nasty here, and you will end up banning me because I am the liberal who fights back … hard.

  41. Mikelx Says:
    December 13th, 2003 at 9:06 pm

Mikelx, You claiming that you are an “expert” at nasty politics and debate doesn’t carry much weight because all you produce are crackpot, paranoid delusions about how the evil republicans control the media.

I don’t believe that I said I was an “expert.” I said that “My knowledge of nasty politics goes back before you (Cannon) started playing kickball on the playground.” It would be more logical on your part, Troll, to quote me in the correct context.

And another thing Troll. I said that wealthy Republicans “own” (as in property ownership) the media. I didn’t say that they RNC controlled it. You say that this is crackpot and a paranoid delusion. Wouldn’t your adjectives be applicable for those who claim there is this blatant “liberal media?”

You muddy the waters with a little blather about “republicans own the media but they don’t control the issues”. Then what do you care?

What kind of question is that? I offer my opinion on an issue, and you are questioning my concern. What’s your point?

Throughout your screeds are the same hackneyed liberal cliches that have been around in various forms for eight years.

Throughtout? My screeds? My liberal cliches? I really don’t think I have offered much of myself in this forum. Perhaps you are debating the Straw man. I am Mikelx. Debate me on what I actually say, and not what you would like me to say. And another thing, quote me correctly in the proper context, please. Thanks!

As far as me being an A-hole …

From what I can tell so far, this is your best trait.

… contempt and sarcasm are all you deserve as you have no problem treating others in the same manner.

Sarcasm to you, humor to others. Boys and girls, I will not allow you to bully me. We can keep this as civil as you want it to be.

Matt, I can make this fun and robust, or we can take it to the level that Cannon and Troll are taking this. It is your call.

I’m sure you’ll respond with more dubious boasts about what “mean leftist political debating machine” you are when in reality you are a petty little liberal drone with too much time on its hands.

Troll, I ain’t the best, but I am pretty fucking good at online debating. I can turn loud mouth bullies, like you, into whimpering little babies that will demand my banishment.

Do you folks want to have a fun and lively debate here, or do you want a flame war?

Go ahead and keep posting if you want but your credibility has sunk to the point where you’ll only get contempt and ridicule as a response.

The only way I could ever gain credibility here is if I were to become passive. The only way I could ever become credible to a rightwinger, is if I were to agree with him.

Boys and girls, I know what I am doing, and I don’t need the comforts of those that agree with me to stand up to you folks. If I wanted to avoid your criticism, then I would go to a place where people agreed with me, and that is very boring.

Do you folks want to debate political issues, or do you want to make me the issue?

Note how he doesn’t even offer any links to support his accusations…

Matt, in another blog, you and I debated over the credibility of that list of alleged positive things. You took it on faith that the list was factual without any clarification.

So when Jay offers something that is critical of your boy, you expect clarification from him. Why is that? Even if he did have a link to something, would that make his argument valid?

Liberals are more than willing to repeat the most ridiculous conspiracy theories and call them facts.

Rightwingers don’t? How about this nonsense that Bill Clinton ran a drug operation, that he raped women, that he was a murderer, and that he fucked up on OBL? You rightwingers need to step back and see how others perceive you. Your “side” has had some really nasty conspiracies too. Hell, your “side” wrote the rules of the game!

or better yet, they just turn their heads because they refuse to believe thier golden boy is fallible.

And here your golden boy is being accused of wrong-doing, and I see your head turning? You can’t have it both ways, dude. Matt, I have been a observer of rightwing shitism for a long time, and you seem a little naive to the antics of those you align yourself with.

Yawn, more horn tooting and empty threats from Mikelx. For someone who is so “jaded” and “tough”, you do a lot of whining. I’ve been making you jump through hoops for the last few days like a trained monkey and have applied very little effort in doing so. I suppose you’ll reply with even more horn tooting and empty boasts about your debating skills which consist of leftist rhetoric and snide remarks. I suppose anyone who disputes your crank theories is a “loud mouth bully”. You are so “full” of yourself, it’s unbelievable. You even reply to comments that weren’t directed at you. You were never the issue, to us your just another leftist moonbat mouthpiece spewing the same tired crap like a broken record. Get over yourself and you might be taken half seriously.

First we get Zell Miller endorsing Bush. OK, I know, the Democrats say Miller isn’t really a Democrat (just like J.C. Watts isn’t really black).

Then, Max Cleland calls Dean a weasel. No doubting Cleland’s Democrat credentials.

Then, Gore endorses Dean. Joe Lieberman, in his own polite way, accuses Gore of being disloyal and abandoning his beliefs. I’m sitting here thinking, it can’t get any better for Bush.

    But I was wrong.

The Dow finally closes above 10,000.

And today, the best news of all…”WE GOT HIM!”

Troll, anybody with any opinion is a ripe target for flaming - I don’t care. My entire online existence has been in a flame environment. However, I have been learning in recent months that in the rightwing world of blogs, flaming is only tolerated if it is directed towards the liberal. Liberal flames are not tolerated, and they get banned. In general, rightwingers in these blogs are cowardly bullies that can only survive with the a pack mentality. You, Troll, are one of these cowardly bullies.

So, while boasting and arrogance is a cool thing if you are a rightwinger, a liberal isn’t permitted to do the same. Political correctness is rampant among you Limbiciles. When you say “your same tired rhetoric and distortions have been spouted by every liberal moonbat in the blogosphere”, you are attempting silence opposing viewpoints because you are tired of hearing things that are critical of your repulsive ideology. Tough shit! Deal with it.

Mikelx…I have no interest in getting involved in your silly little spat with other posters on this board. However, suffice it to say that if you truly believe these words of yours, you have absolutely no clue about politics and the majority of voters in this country. Saddam in custody, the economy improving, the Dow above 10,000 again and growing, no more terror attacks, and you honestly believe that the American people will throw out George Bush and elect Howard Dean because of “lies about the lack of WMD”. To be honest, there is nothing better I can say than your own words. I’ll be happy to let those words of yours speak for themselves regarding your credibility. Hell…I’ll even play the devil’s advocate and play along for the moment…OK…you’re right. Bush lied about the WMD. 57. Jay Says:
    December 16th, 2003 at 12:38 pm

Oh yeah, I had to make all of this up. I’ve posted links before and Bush supporters STILL deny it. My favorite was when a Bush supporter called the PNAC’s website http://www.newamericancentury.org a “liberal propaganda site”. Yet they believe without hesitation that Iraq caused 9/11 because Cheney said so or that WMDs were found in Iraq because Bush said so or that John McCain has a bastard daughter from an affair with a Black hooker just because Karl Rove said so.

It’s been my experience that Bush thrives of fear and ignorance. His supporters truly don’t know that Bush called Saudi Arabia “allies in our war on terrorism” or that he is offering amnesty to 3 million illegal immigrants, or withholding $600 million from the Border Patrol or even that OBL is still alive and Afghanistan is falling into chaos.
The most truly terrifying thing I see happening is next summer when Bush starts bringing the troops home in time for his reelection. That’s a horrifying flipflop from the days when we were going to occupy Iraq indefinitely. Matt Margolis will be vociferously defending the withdrawal next summer with as much vehemence as when he denounces the same action today. Bush will do ANYTHING to get reelected, including neuter America in front of the world.

Wow you right. I am so ashamed to be an American. Gee we should put Saddam back in power. We should disband our entire military. We should put Bush and Cheney in jail in the Netherlands. The Secret Service should enforce this. Put President Gore in charge. Every decision we make as a country should be approved by the UN.

All that could happen and the left would still bitch and whine how our country was heading to hell and a hand basket. Case in point:

The most truly terrifying thing I see happening is next summer when Bush starts bringing the troops home in time for his reelection. That’s a horrifying flipflop from the days when we were going to occupy Iraq indefinitely.

Well which is it? You hate the troops being over there and hate the thought of bringing them home? (Hell if truth be known you probably hate the troops in any case.)

BTW the clip will probably show the President going stone face while in the classroom. This “proves” that BUSH KNEW, right? Hmmm how would you have preferred him to react in front of a group of grade schoolers? Or perhaps pull a Kerry and shout out Fuck! (look familiar Mikey?) in front of the children. If he had done that you all would be whining about how he cracked under pressure.

It’s called maturity in the face of adverse conditions… (you all should know about adverse conditions after all many of you all are being taken away into reeducation camps and mass graves right now for speaking out… oh you mean your not, silly me. How dare the VRWC fall down on its job. I demand my dues back!) something more people on the left should learn. If they did they might actually stand of chance of winning in 2004. However if you all keep it up this way you will lose.

The Donks are sure spinning now. All they have left are the same tired accusations that have been debunked at least thousand times. The desperation they are displaying is apparent to everyone but themselves. They don’t even realize that the constant spewing of crackpot conspiracy theories is going to destroy the democrat party. Guys like Zell Miller and Joe Lieberman see this, but they are being drowned out by the moonbats. Even Hillary sees her presidential hopes going down the drain. If not, why the concerted effort to sabatoge the Dean campaign?

Bush 41 backed out of bringing down Hussein in 1991 because he said that we would get caught in a huge quagmire of guerilla warfare, ethnic and religious strife, decayed infrastructure, and terrorist attacks. That’s all proven eerily prophetic. What wasn’t so prophetic is Bush 43 saying he would never get involved in “nation-building” back in 2000.

    http://www.fredoneverything.net/FOE_Frame_Column.htm

Look for the “Maybe We Ain’t Bin Ladened” column. It outlines why we can’t leave Iraq. We are in Iraq now, we broke it, we bought it. If troops start coming home next summer then all the guerillas have to do is bide their time. It is almost a 180 degree turn from Bush’s neo-con PNAC policy of an American empire that started in Iraq. That neocon fantasy in tatters. http://.www.newamericancentury.org

Cannon, the video shows Bush continuing to read a story about a pet goat to first graders after he hears the news. No, I don’t think Bush knew about 9/11 beforehand, I don’t think he knew what was going on at all when it happened. Here’s his feelings about catching OBL right after 9/11 and when he started beating the Iraq war drum. http://www.blah3.com/doa.html

Robert, Bush is NOT fighting terrorism. By your logic, Clinton had no more foreign terrorist attacks for 8 years after the first WTC bombing so he must have been doing something great. Why is it Bush did NOTHING for nine months with info about Al Qaeda causing the attack on the USS Cole or telling the CIA to lay off OBL? Bush pushed for tax cuts to the wealthy instead of patrolling our ports, he pushed for tax cuts to the wealthy instead of increasing security at chemical plants, and he withheld $600 million from the Border Patrol so his wealthy friends wouldn’t have to pay an American a living wage for a job an illegal immigrant could do. Hell, his telemarketers who call the wealthy for campign contributions are in INDIA! God forbid there was another terrorist attack in the future, you’d still blame Clinton or “libs” or anyone but Bush.

Trollbaiter, MikeLX asked a valid question and you just repeated “I’M GOING TO IGNORE YOU!” Just a year ago you were probably saying that Iraq had huge amounts of botulism, sarin gas, cyanide, nukes, and God knows what else. Why does that not matter now? Because if you know something that the American government doesn’t know about the whereabouts of these WMDs, it is your patriotic duty to reveal it. If I knew where they were I’d speak up. Because a month from now the news of Saddam’s capture will be old hat and the guerilla war you pretend doesn’t exist will still be there.

And finally, for all you guys crowing about the Dow being above 10,000 why is that so important now when the last time it was you guys were insisting that the whereabouts of the President’s penis was more important? Joe Sixpack hasn’t benefited yet from the Dow regaining so much ground. I work in the investment industry, and the only real money I’m making is from all the overtime I get due to the Feds investigating the unfair market-timing trade practices of Bush’s fatcat campaign contributors. Also, insider trading is at an all time high. Apparently the boys at the top don’t have faith in the recovery. I don’t want a crash, but if there is one, you’ll still be here saying it’s Clinton’s fault.

The moonbat known as Mikelx claimed he was going to ignore me but I got under his “skin” and he couldn’t resist. I was ridiculing him for this. The people here have only so much tolerence for someone who is so consistently wrong in their facts. Your comments have turned into screeds that are so full of mis-statements and factual errors that I’m not going to waste my time pointing them out as they are obvious to anyone who isn’t a screeching moonbat.
