Georgie Boy Comes Through.

By Matt Margolis | July 3, 2003

Tonight I treated myself to a cappuccino at Starbucks. Why? I’ll tell you.

I pleasantly observed today that my paycheck had gotten bigger.

I didn’t get a raise. (Not yet, but I’d like one of those too.)
I didn’t get a bonus. (Although one would be appreciated.)

Nope. Today, when I got my paycheck I felt the affects of George W. Bush’s most recent tax cut.

Oh how sweet it is.

My money back where it belongs. It’s a beautiful thing.

So here’s where some of my liberal visitors are going to be inclined to say things like:

“What programs are being cut?”
“What about the deficits?”
“This tax cut is not going to help the economy.”
etc. etc. etc.

Yeah, yeah, more and more of the same stupid lines by people who don’t know what they’re talking about.

Say all you want about the tax cut. I would love to shake George W. Bush’s hand and say “Thank you, Mr. President, for believing that my money is my money.”

It comes down to a simple question of what you believe.

Is government too big?
Yes.

Are we over taxed?
Yes.

Does the government spend too much money?
Absolutely

You can argue about government programs if you want. However, no where in the constitution does it say the government is supposed to fund things such as abortions for poor minors, or the education of minorities, or campaigns for teen drunk driving awareness, or Planned Parenthood Abortions, or whatever. The constituion says the following:

The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;

Somewhere between the ratification of the Constitution and today the government began taxing us to pay for much more than the “common Defence and general Welfare” of its citizens.

Shall I be bold and say that the tax increases and increases in government spending done by the Democrats (and sometimes the Republicans too) is unconstitional?

I guess I said it.

What better way is there to curb government spending by taking money out of Washington and putting it back in the pockets of taxpayers?

I enjoyed my Starbucks cappuccino tonight, boys and girls. I paid for it with my money, but I consider the one I had tonight courtesy of George W. Bush.

Now, whenever I look at my paycheck, I’ll remember why George W. Bush will be re-elected in 2004.

God Bless America.
God Bless Tax Cuts.
God Bless George W. Bush.

If you want to help the economy with your share of tax cut dollars, I think you need to do more than buy a petty drink @ Starbucks. If that’s all you can afford with the tax cut, then why bother with the tax cut?

    Shaggy, Shaggy, Shaggy, Shaggy,

Buy spending money in the private sector, you contribute to the economy. Does my lone act of purchasing a capuccino mean much in the big picture? No, it doesn’t. However, when all those who benefit from the tax cut, whether it be by 100 dollars, or 1000 dollars, spend that money, the collective acts would contribute.

I don’t expect you to understand that concept, because you have said in the past that you’d rather not spend the money you get from the tax cut, or contribute it to some “anti-Bush” campaign. You would rather not even try to contribute to economic growth, because of your prejudice against conservatives, especially Bush.

If you feel “why bother” over this tax cut, are you going to return yours to the government?

See thats the problem. Liberals wanna piss and moan about Bush and the economy and how its all his fault and blah blah blah. But when it comes time to make a difference, even in teh slightest way, then wanna hole themselves up for the sake of proving their point.

shaggy don’t know shit about economics….. don’t take his comments seriously…. you gotta spend money to make money.

Actually, you guys don’t know shit about the economy. The reason Bush’s tax cut is such a farce is because the vast majority of benefits flow to households at the upper end of the income scale. These households are far less likely to spend any tax cut and more likely to save it. Thats why your money-into-the-economy claim doesn’t hold Cappuccino.

Additionally, cutting the tax on dividends is unlikely to spur business investment spending. Shithead bush claims the dividend tax cut will help boost the stock market, thereby creating greater incentive for businesses to invest (as if he really knew what he was talking about). But countless studies over the past several decades have found overwhelming evidence that business investment responds very little to changes in the stock market. Rather, the consensus among economists is that the major determinant of business investment is internal cash flow, also known as undistributed profits or retained earnings. Indeed, now that the tax on dividends has been cut, businesses will face pressure from shareholders to pay out more dividends resulting in less cash for investment. This could ultimately result in a woresening of the economy.

Oh yeah, I’m so sure he just wakes up one morning, scratches his balls and says “Hmmm lets do this!”, without any sort of advising or outside opinion. Because you know, its gotta be a dictatorship over there at the Oval Office. “Oh yesss, Master Bush. We will do whatever you want.”

One thing people tend to forget is that George W. Bush campaigned on domestic policy, specifically the economy and tax cuts.

To suggest that he alone made the decision and that it’s all on whim, is just stupid. This was an important part of his campaign, so accusing him of not knowing what he’s talking about is not only stupid and misguided, but you obviously don’t understand how the job of the President is carried out. He has advisors, experts, etc. who work with him to propose policies. Cutting taxes and reducing spending in Washington benefits the economy. However, the unfortunate truth is, that spending in Washington has gone up. This is the real reason for the deficit.

yeah, people seem to forget that the war in Iraq, and war on terror aren’t free, but are neccessary US ventures.
