Janet Reno

By Matt Margolis | May 31, 2003

Sometimes, liberals just say things that are just plain stupid. On Wednesday, May 28, Janet Reno said something that was not only stupid, but also inappropriate, offensive, as well as anti-semetic.
Janet Reno, a big loser in the Florida gubernatorial race (originally expected to give Jeb Bush a good fight, she didn’t even get to lose to him, she lost in the Democratic primary) trying to rally up Democratic voters for the next presidential election, compared the GOP agenda to the atrocities of the Nazis.

The article mentions one particular Delray residence named Joanne Goldfarb, who was in attendence at this event. This makes this article much more interesting because Goldfarb is a common Jewish name. The article ends with this:

One part of Reno’s speech, which touched upon issues such as classroom sizes, health care and the criminal justice system, seemed to speak directly to Goldfarb. Reno spoke about visiting the Dachau concentration camp in Germany as a child and learning what had happened.

“I went back and asked my adult German friends, ‘How could you let that happen?’ ” Reno said. “They said, ‘We just stood by.’ “

She looked right into the the audience and told them that’s why she was there. She had no intention of just standing by.

“And don’t you just stand by,” Reno said.

Where does Reno get the fortitude to compare standing by and letting the atrocities of the Nazis happen to not organizing Democrats to vote in the next election. This is clearly Reno’s way of suggesting the GOP agenda is fascist, oppressive, and evil.

As a Jew, I find this extraordinarily offensive. I can’t imagine how someone such as Joanne Goldfarb could sit there in that audience, and accept that at appropriate. Goldfarb had been quoted in the article saying “I don’t go to a lot of these things, but Janet Reno is such an honest person that tells it like it is, even if I don’t agree with everything, I can believe what she says.”

Whether that quote was taken before or after Reno’s speech, I don’t know. I can’t imagine anyone saying after Reno’s speech that she “tells it like it is.” The way Reno puts it, the GOP is a bunch of Nazis, and the conservative agenda is on the same level as murdering 6 million Jews.

In a message board on another website, I had made the observation that Democrats present themselves as moderates, and they do so by presenting any conservative idea as being ultra-right-wing and extreme, as well as well as equating conservatism with fascism. Coincidentally, I made that observation the night before this story was reported in the Palm Beach Post.

This is on the same level as the NAACP linking then Presidential candidate George W. Bush to the dragging death of James A. Byrd, Jr., during the 2000 Presidential election. These tactics are sick, anti-semetic, racist, and are a true example of the immorality and stupidity of the Democratic Party.

I’d like to welcome Janet Reno to the number three spot on the MattMargolis.com Liberal Idiots List.

    I missed the point?

Pardon me, Ludis, but I see the point very clear.

As a Jew, I am extremely offended by someone like Janet Reno comparing the “conservative agenda,” an agenda that I generally support, with the atrocities of the Nazis. It was a tasteless and anti-semetic comment made by Janet Reno.

Matt, It seems like you guys take every chance you can get to be “offended” by someone you do not agree with.
In no way was her comment anti-semetic.
