A new category has been initiated in my blog. Welcome to the Reading Room.
The purpose of this category is rather simple. It is to serve as a “forum” for me to talk about the current book I am reading, or talk about my progress reading the book (possibly by writing about specific things I’ve just read that I find particularly interesting)
The first thing I am going to report in the Reading Room is that I finished The Savage Nation this afternoon. I decided to take a couple hours relaxing at Starbucks to finish it off, since reading the book during my lunch break at work proved to not be as simple a task as I expected. Which is unfortunate, but the truth of the matter is that I have a very limited amount of time to read. I buy books at a much faster rate than I read them.
On that note, I received two more books that I ordered online recently. “Treason”, by Ann Coulter, and and “Breakdown” by Bill Gertz.
Now, since these have been recently purchased and I have other books that I received that have been waiting to be read, I’m going to read one of the other books first. THere are a number of books that I’ve purchased before “Treason” and “Breakdown”, and I’m hoping my readers can help me decide on one of these books before Monday morning. I’ve narrowed the selection to three from which you should choose.
1. “Basic Economics” by Thomas Sowell
2. “Dereliction of Duty” by Robert Patterson
3. “Useful Idiots” by Mona Charen
I’d like to know what my readers recommend I read next. Ultimately, the decision is mine, but I will take all posters suggestions into consideration.
Dereliction of Duty
1) From afar it looks like Clinton’s smokin’ a big doobie.
2) I like the word Derelict.
“Yeah well you can derelict my balls!” -Derek Zoolander
my vote is with anything by Thomas Sowell. He’s amazing.
I would recommend Useful Idiots, I skimmed over it at the bookstore and it looked good.
Three books to choose from.
Three votes casted so far.
No winner.
Go figure!!!
I’ve read Dereliction of Duty, and it is a pretty damning account of the Klintoons and their treatment and view of the patriots in the US Military. Essentially, BJ and the Hildebeast saw generals as caddys, multimillion dollar aircraft as free cabs, and soldiers as armed social workers to be sent to the hellholes of the world, but not to be paid. It is an interesting, but infuriating, read.
I tend to read scholarly books… in fact I don’t think I have even read a pundit book…
Sooo… I’d say go with “Basic Economics” by Thomas Sowell. Something as important as learning the basics of economics should come first if you wish to prepare yourself for debate.
As far as the other books are concerned… Tell me something I don’t know! I know Clinton was a whack-job. I know the Left is still bitter after the Cold War. I’m not knocking these books, I just think you would benefit in the long run if you had a basic understanding of economics.
B-)
Sowell. ‘Nuff sed.
Thought I would share a little family encounter…
Court: Hahaha this dude just called the Clintons “BJ & Hildebeast”.
Mom: What’s the “J” stand for?!
Everyone: (Roar of laughter from family)
Court: Job mom, the “J” stands for job. Now think of the “B”.
Mom: Bill?
Court: Nope, but it is a four letter word.
Mom: (Shocked look.)
Her naivety is hilarious.
Well, it’s less than two hours from midnight, so the choice had to be made. “Basic Economics” got the most votes.
Hopefully, I’ll be able to make time to read this book. Should be a very interesting read.
Sooooo…. how is it?
I’m off to a slow start – mostly due to time.
However, I’ve found it extremely informative and intriguing so far. I’ll post an update on the book in a few days.
Love your site. Can’t wait to argue with you. I have the following suggestions:
Bush’s Brain
The Best Democracy Money Can Buy by Greg Palast
Nickeled and Dimed by Barbara Ehrenreich
Bushed… you must be highly proficient Photoshop…all those doctored images…. the funny thing is, you don’t need to doctor an image of Senator Byrd to find a KKK cloak.
Have you considered reading anything that was not far-righest propaganda? There’s some great literature out there worth reading, and you are wasting your time on debunked bunk, and backscratching.
Like Noam Chomsky?? Or Hitlery???? come one…we know that’s who you are talking about… but he’s talking about non-fiction….nonrevisionist
As far as “LiesInMedia” is concerned, the only books that aren’t “far-righest propaganda” ar the ones that say things that he would agree with. Unfortunately, the world doesn’t revolve around him – and bias/propaganda is determined on his sole judgement.
Based on his comments, I am under the impression that he doesn’t read much. Certainly he is no bastion of objectivity – as he claims he is.
Liberals have an interesting way at looking at the world. I could read a book “Democrats are Bad” and they’ll call it biased propaganda, and then suggest I read “Republicans are Bad” and call it an unbiased work of genius by a leading intellectual with no axe to grind.
That’s just how they are. They live in a taxpayer-funded Socialist dreamworld.
I recommend Blinded by the Right by David Brock.
Ha!
David Brock?????? That’s a good one. Yeah, I know about David Brock.
Have you even read the book Um Yeah? Or did you just happened to get off from reading the title and browsing a synopsis on Amazon or Barnesandnoble.com?
I read it twice.
Wait is this the part where Horowitz said Brock lied about me and was then caught in a lie?

Twice Um Yeah?
Needed to go back and look up all the big words you couldn’t understand?
Im a fast reader and I commute to school by train so I can finish a book pretty fast. Once in a while I will reread a book sometimes you miss stuff the first time around.
So many to choose from. I’d start with anything by Hernando De Soto, who finally figured out what capital is. Adam Smith and Marx puzzled over it, but didn’t get very far.
The Explorer?
You mischaracterized my advice that you read literature into a demand that you read radical left authors? How disengenuious.
If you are interested in recent fiction, I cannot help. I hear good things about Harry Potter. Obviously, however, there’s a list of great classics that everyone wishes they had read but has not yet. For instance, I’ve started Great Expectations 3 times just to quit. Same with Le Miserables – 2 times.
In terms of non-fiction, if you want something a bit more airy, let me reccomend Angry White Pajamas, a story about an englishman training in martial arts in Japan. If you want something a bit harder, I’d try Code-Name Downfall: The Secret Plan to Invade Japan-And Why Truman Dropped the Bomb and The Decision to Use the Atomic Bomb and the Architecture of an American Myth, together, to provide a point-counterpoint. Of course, I’m a WWII buff, so that kind of thing interests me.
LiesInMedia,
I was gernally referring to Um Yeah’s attempt of making a book recommendation.
I certainly find value in fiction titles. I was one avery avid reader of James Patterson novels, and up until the last few, I’ve read them all.
I am currently reading a non-fiction title called “Basic Economics” by Thomas Sowell. It is a very interesting book. I hope to give everyone an update on my progress soon.
You should be aware that Basic Economics is a somewhat one sided neo-classical approach to economics. A true study of economics would have a broader approach. Allow me to reccomend reading Equality and Efficiency: The Big Tradeoff instead. If you *MUST* read books by conservatives only, at least read the best – Capitalism and Freedom by Friedman.
